From Wilfred van Velzen@2:280/464 to All on Fri Sep 23 11:29:33 2022

    Hi All,

More changes in the prolog, towards it being the IC produced nodelist instead of the Z2C produced version.
    The epilog now also says:
    ;S *** EPILOG-SECTION OF AN IC-SANCTIONED NODELIST > SEP 22 2022 ***

Node 2:280/5555 has an extra IBN. They all work. ;)

    2022-09-23 11:26:05.676 2:280/5555 fido.vlist.eu:24554 2001:1c02:1105:4500:f1d0:2:280:5555 Ok.

    ;)

But why two different IBN's? They are both subdomains of vlist.eu, so both fail if vlist.eu dns fails. Why not just add multiple A's and AAAA's under one name?

    Just wondering... :)

    Saw it.

Unfortunately I am unable to retrieve the accompanying TIC file, so I can not check if it actually originates from 2:2/1000 or that it still originates from 2:292/854.

    Ok.

The second one is not new. It was temporarely removed some months ago because it stopped working. Now that it works again, it is reïnstalled.

    Cheers, Michiel

I found it after all. The TIC originates from 2:292/854.

The second IBN is not to protet against failure of the DNS service wheren vlist.eu is registered. Eurodns.com is very reliable, it has never failed me in all those years. fido4to6.vlist.eu is a cname for de8.portmap64.net. It is a leftover from my Ds-Lite emulation experiments. It points to the IPv4 adres of the 4 to 6 port mapper of Feste-Ip.net.

    http://www.vlist.eu/downloads/fidonews/myarticles/dsltsol.art

Now it works as failover for those who do not have IPv6 to connect to my sytem if my incoming IPv4 fails on this end.

Why not just add multiple A's and AAAA's under one name?

To indicate that fido4to6 is not the prefered choice. It is my understanding that most systems will never try the second IBN first.

    Cheers, Michiel

Binkd (with nodelist.pl) most likely will try both:

    18:03 [22214] Substituted * to fido.vlist.eu.;fido4to6.vlist.eu. for 2:280/5555@fidonet by nodelist
    + 18:03 [22214] call to 2:280/5555@fidonet
    18:03 [22214] trying fido.vlist.eu. [2001:1c02:1105:4500:f1d0:2:280:5555]...
    18:03 [22214] connected
    + 18:03 [22214] outgoing session with fido.vlist.eu:24554 [2001:1c02:1105:4500:f1d0:2:280:5555]

Nope. Those "most systems" will try it as a second choice after a connect with fido.vlist.eu fails.

I meant that some systems may not support multiple IBN's..
