• The New TV Season So Far,

From Dumas Walker@1:2320/105 to rick christian on Sun Oct 16 15:25:00 2016
I am sick and tired of this get all hooked on a show, and YANK! They
can it because some dolt 19 year old doesn't watch! I might come back
to some stuff if they put 3 years in the can, and a renewal for a
4th/5th is signed, and irrevocable! So in other words, not likely!

The US5 are not the only ones that do this. Watching a lot of British shows here in the US has taught me they are really bad about it over there. BBS America (ok so that may be ours! <g>) seems to drop shows I get interested
in like hot potatoes. Some are dropped by BBC proper while others are just dropped in the US.

The BBC proper must do it, too, because it is not PBS
that has cancelled some of my favorites over the recent years.

I also hate it when they kill my favorite characters off. SciFi is bad about that and, from what you said about DCI Banks, I am afraid I may be unhappy
with the coming season when it reaches PBS. :(

Really??? I have not noticed that...hmm... Examples???

Spy, The Hour, Home Fires (apparently), Scott & Bailey, Moone Boy (apparently)

They may not all be BBC shows, and I know the last one is actually Irish, but they are "British Isles" shows. I think BBS America had a part in getting
The Hour killed, but I think Spy still had some funny left in it, and I know that Moone Boy does. Home Fires was good, but I have not seen season 2 yet
so maybe it was time for it to go.

I hear Scott & Bailey may come back with a mini-series type season.

With the exception of The Hour, all those other ones are/were shown here on PBS.

I have to give the BBC props as they have kept other shows running a while. Last of the Summer Wine ran forever, and they've brought Dr. Who back at
    least once!

while others are just dropped in the US.
That is why I don't rely or use PBS or BBCA for this any more.

    BBCA is the culprit here.

I have not seen this... my biggest gripe with the UK and alot of Empire aka "Commonwealth" countries is TOO SHORT SEASONS!!! 6 episodes is not
a season, that is just a WARM UP!
My next biggest gripe is that they kill them off too soon! Show that is...I just want them to go and go and go and go like the Energizer
    bunny! :) ;)

That is what I was saying! :D They are not too patient with them. Seems like the US5 are funny about that. Some they are too paitent with, others get the boot before they really get going good.

Yeah.. Since the #1 criteria for a show is cast, specifically FEMALE
CAST, killing them off is a big problem!
Or even be mediocre to worse, but my girl(s) are in it... Were good to
    go!

Same here. I have quit watching some shows when they kill off my favorite,
and usually (but not always!) female, characters.

that and, from what you said about DCI Banks, I am afraid I may be unhappy with the coming season when it reaches PBS. :(
Depends on who you are in "love" with versus me! :) ;)

I don't wanna know. Actually, that may be one I should have seen coming, though. My understanding is that the books only have one "female lead" but they had to sort of split the character in two for TV when the original lead actress got pregnant. :)
