• apps that won't go away

From August Abolins@2:221/1.58 to All on Fri Sep 10 20:12:00 2021
Recently reviewing some apps on my device (Blackberry Q10), I
noticed that some that I had installed don't have an option to
    be removed - anymore.

    https://susepaste.org/27445319

Normally there is Trash icon associated with an app that can be
removed (circled in red in the above pic) as the icons pulsate.

But the apps I added myself (circled in yellow) don't provide a
    Trash option.

    Anyone encounter a similar situation?

I know when I was on the iPad I had a fireplace app that kept saying it needed to be updated and had a hard time getting rid of it. Write to your App Store’s app’s author. He might be able to help out.

I don't know about QNX but with Android I am able to root it and get rid of any system apps and other bloatware that I don't want.

    It's a commercial real-time unix-like OS intended for embedded
systems: eg, automobiles, smartphones, industrial controls,
    etc.

Developed in Canada! A few guys from Waterloo University
started up the company. I think the product had its beginnings
in Blackberry devices. The Blackberry was developed by Research
in Motion, in a building that was a few hundred meters from
Canadian Marconi were I was working. Hopping over to Research
in Motion seemed very tempting at one time.

Blackberry 10 runs on it. It's been around a long time but Blackberry owns it. It's the OS in quite a few cars now.

QNX is a hard real-time OS.
It was/is used for cnc drilling machines, and such, where you have strict hard real time requirements.
It was also used for some ethernet routers and apparently it is the basis for a dying Canadian smartphone brand. (did neither know that Blackberry is using QNX nor that they still manufacture smartphones. I had the impression that they gave up on that and tried to focus on their server products.)

I thought the Q stood for something.

According to the great & wise Wikipedia:

"The product was originally developed in the early 1980s by Canadian company Quantum Software Systems, later renamed QNX Software Systems. The company was ultimately acquired by BlackBerry Limited in 2010."

So perhaps Q stands for Quantum?

And maybe a further question: "How did they get from Quantum Software Systems to QNX?"

Also from the Wikipedia article (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/QNX):

"Gordon Bell and Dan Dodge, both students at the University of Waterloo in 1980, took a course in real-time operating systems, in which the students constructed a basic real-time microkernel and user programs. Both were convinced there was a commercial need for such a system, and moved to the high-tech planned community Kanata, Ontario, to start Quantum Software Systems that year. In 1982, the first version of QUNIX was released for the Intel 8088 CPU. In 1984, Quantum Software Systems renamed QUNIX to QNX in an effort to avoid any trademark infringement challenges."

So their first product was QUNIX later renamed/shortened to QNX to avoid any lawsuits.
