The standard was 28.8K when I did that with 56.6K really making inroads.

My first one was a 300 which was fine with me since all text and I could
    only read so fast.
Then being able to download/upload message boards and went to a 1200 and thought it couldn't get any faster. Then a 28, then a 56 and broadband in
    '01.
It would take a long time to download with a 56 and now if it takes more
than a few minutes to d/l a two hour movie its "come on, hurry up, what's taking you so long?" :)

    IKR? Jeeze Louise!

My bro, in Seoul, with a built-in T1 in his apartment, expected each 2 hour movie to take about a second or two to drop to one of his disks

He collected hundreds in just his first weekend there!

He could walk to the corner & buy 100 DVDs of anything, including Windows or any utility, for 8c USD (1 wan per disk/movie)

I think he mostly just wanted to brag to me about numbers he downloaded & burned personally. . .

I would've, if I needed that much, just gone to the corner & spent a buck on pre-recorded stuff, & kept that DL+burn time for other things.. .
