But, around here, they wait until the very last minute to "evacuate downtown", and by then, the roads are iced over.

I live only a few blocks from campus.
One day we had a big snow and it was on a two hour delay. (In theory its
so the streets can be plowed, sidewalks on campus cleared, etc).
It was a wet, slick mess out there.
I rode my bike and people exclaimed "You rode your bike in that?"
I replied Well I wasn't about to walk through all the snow and ice. :)

    Joe,

I live only a few blocks from campus.

I think I'm just 2 to 3 miles from the local campus. I lived at home,
but working at Burger King, paid my way through college. Back then (40
years ago), tuition was $400 a semester, with $100 for books, and a $20
yearly parking sticker...but there were no dorms on the campus back
then (it was a commuter campus)

Today, dorms are all over the place, and it costs BIG BUCKS...plus,
the freshman students are REQUIRED to live there.

One day we had a big snow and it was on a two hour delay. (In theory its
so the streets can be plowed, sidewalks on campus cleared, etc).
It was a wet, slick mess out there.

I'd prefer a forecast like that, instead of what we have for Thursday
through Saturday of this week (tornadoes, large hail, damaging winds,
and significant, flooding rain). I'll be offline those 3 days.

I rode my bike and people exclaimed "You rode your bike in that?"
I replied Well I wasn't about to walk through all the snow and ice. :)

Good point. What was their reaction??

    Daryl
