    Its like taxes.
Some people call on businesses to pay more. But those taxes they
are "paying" are passed along in higher costs of whatever they are selling so the customer is paying the taxes in hidden costs. (A
penny here, a penny there on this or that).
Not always, but often enough... and particularly with the larger
businesses that probably could have afforded to absorb the cost...

If the company is large enough (such as chain's) raising the price
of the goods/services a few pennies might not be noticed by the
consumers. But smaller, mom-and-pop places (what few seem to be left)
have a more difficult time for sure.

I'll agree that the larger companies, and chains, have no problem
passing the costs along to the customers... or they might have a
slightly greater profit margin and so can absorb some of it...

One example I can think of us our electric company, AEP.
WV charges a "business and occupancy" (B&O)tax.
On my bill is listed the amount of electric used, etc. along the B&O
tax. So in my bill I am paying my amount of the B&O tax they are
charged, thus they "pay" no tax, its passed along and rather upfront
    about it.

Yes, utilities do seem to be very "good" about passing along the taxes
and charges, pro-rated, to their customers... and I think that legally
they have to be upfront about it, itemizing as on your bill...

An example of the smaller places that I was particularly thinking about
was a small restaurant, owned and run by a couple... I do use my card
there, but when I have the cash on hand, I'll pay in cash, since they
really are running on a shoestring, and can't really afford the fees the
cards charge them... And they've not raised prices since they opened,
over 5 years ago... He says that if he raised prices, he'd lose
    customers...
