Often times I'll snack between when I get up and have supper. Once in
a while I'll have a large lunch and skip supper,
We've gotten that way, too.... Some of our meds need to be taken with
food, but one can have just a snack with them and things are fine...

Thankfully I'm on no meds. The closest to that was some vile
tasting cough syrup, and not so bad drops, with a recent cold.

We don't bother much with OTC meds, except for when that's how to get
certain meds that are prescribed.... :) But my reflux and Richard's
heart condition do require some medication... :)

When I busted my shoulder a few years ago I was given some Rx pain
killer, Lo something or other. I was told to take one every so many
hours and I did at first then cut it half and finally stopped and
still had a lot of them left over. I was to take them for like 10 days but did for only like five days, if that long.

Lodine, perhaps....? It's a fairly high-powered non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID)... it didn't work for me for pain
control... I've never taken pain meds for as often or as long as they permit.... Unlike antibiotics, you don't have to take the whole run to
get the benefit, though.... and that's true for both the NSAIDs and the
    opioid pain drugs...

I find I graze more often. Instead of breakfast/lunch its bite of
this, a bite of that. Then supper around 4.30 and that's that till
    the next morning.

I graze mostly, too... Sometimes we have our big meal in the middle of
the day, and graze a little more later in the evening... But when it's
at night, it can be anywhere from 4:30-5ish to 7 or 8.... depending on
how the day unfolds and how long the supper prep takes (and when I
    actually start, finally).... :)

I eat very little candy. I like those fun size candy bars since
any craving is taken care. If I buy a full sized bar often that will
last a couple of days. (One time while working I brought a full size candy bar one summer day. I had a couple of small bites I tore off, wrapped it back up and put in the cubby hole of the golf cart. One
nice spring day I was giving the cart a much needed cleaning and found that forgotten left over Snickers bar. I put it back when the cart was cleaned. Then a few weeks later had another bite. That candy bar
lasted a year or more. It had melted, frozen, thawed, froze, melted
again several times that year.) :)

That has got to be a record performance... :)

When my sweet tooth acts up I'll often have a teaspoon of plain
    sugar instead.

    I'd not do that.... :)

I'm not a big candy eater, but I love sweet rolls, cakes, pies, etc.

I like those, but can keep them in moderation... A taste every so often
will suffice... :) I don't gorge on candy, either, though I do have
that more regularly... I also will substitute chocolate covered fruits
    and nuts for candy... :)

That looks like the right spelling... I've not really looked for
them in a long while, so I don't know if they are still around...
seems to me, though, that I've seen them relatively recently...
maybe in one of the stores up nearer our camp....
I saw some cheese danish at the store the other day, but was short
on funds, and mainly looking for bread and lunch meat. Got 4 loaves of bread for $1 each, and the "Buddig" brand lunch meat packs. 90
calories per pack, for under 70 cents each (bought 40 of them).

Is that 40 packs of lunch meat packs meant to be 4...? I keep looking
at that to try to figure it out... ;) Or are they small packages...?

With 2 sandwiches at lunch, and 2 at dinner, it lasts me for 10 days. Plus, I can do bread and butter for something else, until I can
grocery shop again in early April. But, my car is in the shop until
after April 3, so I'm stuck at home for 10 days.

Is that how long it'll take for the shop to be finished with it...?

They've got various different coatings now, not just Teflon... I
don't have any of them, though... I just use butter in my pan....

I used to...but it's too hard for me to stand in one spot for long anymore.

I mostly don't stand at the stove any more... I can sit at the kitchen
table, close enough to the stove to reach over and grab the pan to do a
stir if needed, or just get up for a short time for a quick stir and
    then sit again....

Are you sure it wasn't lye soap....?

Might have been. When I worked at Burger King, we "soaked" the vent
hood screens in a lye based solution overnight, then rinsed them out
the next morning...for all the grease that had accumulated in them.
When I worked in silkscreen printing, to remove the "ghost image"
from a previous design, you had to use this lye based stuff...and you
had to have protective clothing on when using it.

Lye can be pretty corrosive... I think that the lye soap at least made
    it safer to use... ;)

    Joe,

With my reflux I find a good belch helps.

Just like when my brother and I were growing up. We'd buy a glass
bottle of Doctor Pepper, swig the whole thing down, and see who could
let out the raunchiest belch. :P Should I alert the folks at Golden
Corral, that we're not 2 beached whales hanging by the food bar after
    we graze?? <G>

Some times I'll have a good slug of milk that neutralizes the acid.

Usually Coca-Cola or Ginger Ale will do it for me. But, since I have
just flavored water at home, I have to take an OTC reflux tablet...then
sit up for a bit for it to take effect. The reflux is especially worse
when I lie down at night.

And there is also baking soda and water. That's nasty tasting stuff
and have to drink the glass in one gulp to be effective. That'll produce JM>a window rattling result. :)

On the belcher scale, no doubt. <G>

I love fruits of all sorts and when in season I eat a lot.

I used to eat the fruit cups...maraschino cherry, peach, pineapple,
etc. Years ago, my late my grandmother got my brother a gallon jar of
those cherries. He got so burned out that he never ate them again...and
I think he's the same way with rice. I myself love those cherries, and
the only rice I can't handle is the "Spanish Rice".

What I dislike are fruits in stores that aren't ripe, but I set them
out and will ripen at room temp over a few days.

The cherry and grape tomatoes rot so fast that it's pathetic. When I
was making salads at home, I liked having them in it.

Those cost more than they are worth. Plus they are processed.

One of the things I loved working in produce was getting all sorts of
stuff free. If a product had any defects it couldn't be sold, so I often
had to cull out things, such as when someone brought X pounds of whatever rather than the box. (The boxes were not culled, shipped "as is"",
though they were opened and given a quick look see.) I brought home all
sorts of stuff that had a little spot that was cut out and perfectly good otherwise.
I used to get a laugh around late April-early May when old codgers in
beat up pickup trucks would buy stuff at the market then a few hours
later be seen at the farmers market selling "home grown" whatever. And
people seemed to think somehow a local "farmer" had ripe peaches in early
    May, or corn, or whatever.
The old city produce market had all sorts of characters working there
or hanging around. One guy drove an ancient truck that was barely
staying together who had all sorts of stuff he would sell. I don't
recall his real name but I always called him "Mr Haney", from Green
Acres. Those two were a lot alike.
(BTW, I recently found a site with the Green Acres shows and been
watching them and what impresses me is the sheer surrealism of the

    The same in WV.
During my jury time I was on only one, but had to check in daily to see
if there was a trial that day I "qualified" for. (Forget what the qualification(s) was.)
I had only that one time as juror.
I was lucky in that there were others at work and if I did have one

come up I just had to let my super know, which I had per-arranged in JM>advance.

I wasn't that lucky. Since I had "the dirtiest job in the place", no
one wanted to do the work. I'm sure they about had a heart attack, when
I walked in, and said I had to resign, due to declining health. It has
gotten worse over the last 15 years...including a diagnosis of
degenerative disk disease in my spinal column a year and a half ago.

The original owner, when I told him, said "I guess I'll have to fire
you". He later apologized, as he was "joking", but I thought he was
serious. But, had they fired me, and I had written proof of it, I think
I would've just taken that to the court, then law enforcement would've
showed up with arrest warrants and handcuffs, for "contempt of court".

Even though I lost big time, pay wise, when I served, it meant a few
hours where I didn't have to deal with the boss.

Thankfully. I had a nightmare when I got back home. The outside storm

there was NO KEY AVAILABLE. I had to yank hard on the door several times

Yep...in all cases where I worked. The one exception was when I
delivered an afternoon newspaper route in south Florida (that paper is
now long gone). I was paid by how many subscribers I had, and was paid
every 2 weeks. Now around Christmas time, I'd buy and send out signed
Christmas Cards to each customer. When I went to collect payment from
those who didn't "pay by mail", in some cases, they only owed $1.20 (10
cents a day for 6 days a week for 2 weeks -- there was no paper on
Sunday), they'd give me a $10 or $20 bill, and tell me to keep the
    change!!

Did the door lock itself somehow....?

Were you paid by the hour...? Sounds, too, like your system is a
    little different from ours.... :)

Yep...in all cases where I worked. The one exception was when I
delivered an afternoon newspaper route in south Florida (that paper is
now long gone). I was paid by how many subscribers I had, and was paid every 2 weeks. Now around Christmas time, I'd buy and send out signed Christmas Cards to each customer. When I went to collect payment from those who didn't "pay by mail", in some cases, they only owed $1.20
(10 cents a day for 6 days a week for 2 weeks -- there was no paper on Sunday), they'd give me a $10 or $20 bill, and tell me to keep the change!!

You had some generous customers there.... that obviously appreciated the service you were providing them.... :)

    Nancy,

Did the door lock itself somehow....?

My guess is that some mischevious kids in the neighborhood came by,
and did it as an act of meanness and vandalism.

I had a few "difficult ones", but most I got to convert from paying in
cash to "pay by mail". Those I didn't have to bother every 2 weeks. It
got so where instead of paying the paper, they paid me. The papers were
bought at wholesale, I sold them at retail, and the difference was my
    profit.

... Do files really get embarrassed when people unzip 'em?

I never asked one....they told me to "buzz off". <G>

Possible... another possibility could be winds slamming the door just
    wrong and the lock catching...

    Nancy,

Possible... another possibility could be winds slamming the door just NB>wrong and the lock catching...

We had several Tornado Warnings in the region today...and some damage.
So, that's a possibility as well (the winds). But, I have taped the knob
to make sure it doesn't catch and lock the door when I go out. But, I eventually will replace the lock on the door.

My son had a paper route for a while, so yes, I do know how it works.. :)

I never thought I'd get the black newsprint off my hands -- and when I
was in silkscreen printing, I never thought I'd have clean hands again,
either. I resigned the newspaper job before moving to Arkansas, and
resigned the silkscreen print job 15 years ago, due to declining health.

Taping the knob is probably a wise idea... And you'll replace with
something less likely to lock on its own...?

I may just replace the lock...but have to get funding to do it.

So are your hands finally clean again....? <G>

From both the newsprint, and after silkscreen printing, yes.
