But, you would think that that was what the manual was for... to let
you in on that when you didn't already know.... ;)

    One would think.
A feature I could never get to work was the missed call alert. I've
even had long time iPhone users stumped.
With my androids when a call was missed a little light blinked on
the blank (asleep) screen. With my SE there is no blink, you have to wake it up for a little green mark on the phone icon to show a missed call.

With my dumb phone, it needs to be woken up, too.... but then you'll get
a display on top of the wallpaper that says that there's a missed call
(or a waiting text message)... You'd expect a smart phone to be
    smarter, though.... ;)

So are you getting that trip actually on the road soon....?

    I'm pretty much all set.
    A few minor details.
I have my route mapped out (that still changes from time to time
(oh, such and such a place is not far from....).
Since my dates to visit are not firm I've changed my mind from
reserving a Airbnb to just staying at a motel as a walk in.
I'll soon be making my car reservations.

    Sounds promising... :)

I'll e-mail people I'm visiting for ETA wherever they are. (Such as
you and Jim, it'll be something like "planned arrival day after
tomorrow" around a certain time, as I get closer to where I'm going. Taking my trusty laptop with me. Then when I get a few miles away a
phone call. (Will ask for the number a day or so ahead).

Do you have a rough idea when it might be...? I know that I'll be out
of town for a few days mid-month in April, and again a day or so in
May.... I'd hate to miss your visit.... :)

Same thing with the digital cameras

I've had a couple of those and somewhat disappointed.
The first was always a bit fuzzy since the pixels were so few.
The next was a Kodak but after about 8-10 photos it said "out of
memory" or battery dead*, etc. (*Even with new/freshly charged batteries). Next was a better Kodak and the same thing.
My iPhone is the best camera ever!

My niece has done professional photography... she does have a digital
camera, but I think she probably spent some bucks on it, to get a good
    one... ;)

... No matter how cynical you become, it's never enough to keep up.
