In the spirit of the subject, I took the liberty of updating "heatsink" which is a tiny industrial type single board computer which hosts a wireless access point for the local smartphone/tablet crowd in the neighbourhood as well as being a fidonet point known as "EuroPoint". Below is the important stuff;

One more to go which is another single board computer that also hosts a wireless access point for the local smartphone/tablet crowd in the neighbourhood, as well as a fidonet node known as "Little Mikey's Brain". That one will take a tad longer as it is the slowest cpu I currently have running. The important thing is it has worked great for many, many years and has always been capable of looking after itself ... as well as other less capable systems such as smartphones and tablets which we all know are overpriced pieces of crap. :::evil grin:::

lscpu claims; Intel(R) Atom(TM) CPU N2800 @ 1.86GHz

Almost ready to start. I am guesstimating we'll be back up to speed later today as long as nothing unexpected happens.

Actually +2/3 since this one isn't quite up to date yet. As we speak it is compiling x86_64-lmbrain-linux-gnu-gcc-10.2.0 from an extra-special toolchain. The entire x86_64-lmbrain-linux-gnu should be finished later today.

I am sticking with 5.7.15 for now. fbdev2 is still flakey on 5.8.1 although it at least gives some output so I assume it is being worked on. There was no output on 5.8.0.

in that case of yes, disable optimized fbdevs :)

i had this problem once long time ago, but found i could solve it with disable brokken fb devices in kernel build

That is the host machine for the Atom based wireless access point and fidonet node known as "Little Mikey's Brain". For my neighbours it means their smartphones and/or tablets can text message or facebook or whatever they do with those crippled devices. For me it is one of my fidonet accesses. I currently have two, one of which I am using to reply to your message. Note the tearline below. This machine is already up to date.

I haven't done that in ages now. Both x86_64-heatsink-linux-gnu and x86_64-lmbrain-linux-gnu lack monitors, keyboards and mice. They do have sshd running on a private network where I access fidonet from x86_64-motorshed-linux-gnu which has all the required hardware to play movies, music, etc. It also has xorg which both the tiny single board computers don't. They don't need a gui.

I could but it really doesn't matter other than to x86_64-motorshed-linux-gnu where it is part of my testing procedure.
