• Free IPv6 dynamic IP updater

From Tim Schattkowsky@2:240/1120.29 to All on Sat Apr 2 14:39:01 2022
    Hello All,

does anybody know a free dyn DNS service that supports IPv6?

Using no-ip right now, but no free IPv6 and monthly renewal is a pain in the butt.

    Regards,
    Tim

Because writing your own would take less time than downloading my code and understanding how it works.

anything is simple in emacs :)

    ifconfig lo | grep global

or more secure as some still say

    ip -6 addr show
    ip -6 route show

    combine what is needed

make the dyn dns update via nsupdate to remote dns server is not the hard part of it, simplest form is hidded primary on ones own domain name

remember to be nice, its not year 1970 now

    Regards Benny

I doubt its that complex. But you are completely missing the point. At first this requires access to a domain, which is what theses services offer. The problem is not updating the record, it is about having a record to be updated for free!

There are lots of domains offering free subdomains.

Hurricane Electric (he.net) offers free DNS to all of their IPv6 certification and tunnel users. It can be updated dynamically similar to dyndns.org.

This is what I use with my custom domain. (https://dns.he.net)

I just have a cron job setup to periodically poll using curl. Example from the above URL:

    Autodetect my IPv4/IPv6 address:
    % curl -4 http://dyn.example.com:pword@dyn.dns.he.net/nic/update?hostname=dyn.example.com
    % curl -6 http://dyn.example.com:pword@dyn.dns.he.net/nic/update?hostname=dyn.example.com
