I watched them both to the end. Interesting indeed! (6to4 is evil! ;))

    Bye, Wilfred.

Same here. Very interesting, thanks for sharing, Michiel!

I just checked our list, and it seems like only two systems use 6to4, so we're good. 8-)

Geoff Huston is not only a man who knows what he is talking about, he is also a good lecturer. I always enjoy his lectures.

Two out of forty two. Not bad, but although Geoff said that 6to4 is very bad, he also mentioned that tunnels in general are bad. Not as bad as 6to4, but still bad. Looking at the list I see that about half of them are using a tunnel.

So we all should keep the pressure on our ISPs to give us native IPv6.

    Cheers, Michiel

True. I also noticed that we have four systems using 6RD, that is a wee bit better than 6to4, but not much.

Sweden's biggest ISP, TeliaSonera, offers only 6RD to it's private customers. Corporate customers seem to be able to get true, native IPv6 -- at a cost I guess. A real shame!

I'd say 6RD is a lot better than 6to4, it is almost as good as a dedicated 6in4 tunnel.

The main weakness of 6to4 is its dependence the servive of third party volunteers that have no relation with their users. 6RD uses the same basic technology but it operates entirely within the ISP's network, thus avoiding 6to4's main weakness.

Sweden's biggest ISP, TeliaSonera, offers only 6RD to it's private customers.

    It is better than nothing...

It seems to me the Swedish ISPs need a kick in the ass...

    Amen to that.

Unfortunately all but one (Bahnhof who happens to have been running the SixXS tunnel for all those years) seem absolutely not interested in customer feedback. The only way to reach them is via some Bangalore based help-desk with 30+ minute waiting time, or similar.

Ahh, well, we all know how many milliards of Euro they are making on what originally was designed as a free network. They are very unlikely to let this goldmine of theirs going away without a fight.

Fidonet seems to be the only truly free network available today. <3

Here we are in a better position. There is fierce competition between KPN, the former telecom incumbent, now main DSL provider and Ziggo, the biggest cable company.

They DO listen to what the customers want. Unfortunately only a very small minority of the customers is interested in IPv6. What the majority of the customers want is speed. And so they mainly compete on speed....

... and price. Customers love lower prices. What was that about IPv-what-ever? No idea, internet works fine. :)

For amusement: I've helped a friend with a business DSL from Deutsche Telekom. Guess what, no IPv6 included in his tariff. It's so <double facepalm>. And Deutsche Telekom does IPv6.
