• Apple Will Require IPv6 Support For All iOS 9 Apps

From Michiel van der Vlist@2:280/5555 to All on Thu Jun 11 13:45:52 2015
    Hello All,

Apple Will Require IPv6 Support For All iOS 9 Apps

"Because IPv6 support is so critical to ensuring your applications work across the world for every customer, we are making it an AppStore submission requirement, starting with iOS 9." With those words, Sebastien Marineau, Apple's VP of Core OS, gave a huge boost to IPv6 developer support in Apple's WWDC Platform State Of The Union (SOTU) address yesterday.

This could be the break through...

    Cheers, Michiel

Doubtfull. It doesn't mean they can only connect through IPv6, just that they are able to, if necessary. It doesn't change anything in provider "land".

    Bye, Wilfred.

Most mobile providers only issue IPv4 access behind a CGNAT. It will be a matter of time before app users will start noticing that the apps have reduced functionality when operated over an IPv4 only link. They will complain to the Apple app store. Who in turn will put pressure on the providers. Apple is a big player that can come up with a lot of push...

What reduced functionality would that be? Only server applications will have problems behind a nat. Which end users use those on their phone? (besides fidonet nodes ;))

Things that do not work well from behind a NAT? I do not know how thyat would apply to apps, but I can imagine that it will only be a matter of time until something like that pops up.

Only server applications will have problems behind a nat.

No, not just those. VOIP has problems and so have some games.

Which end users use those on their phone? (besides fidonet nodes ;))

I do not know of any that run servers, but some do VOIP and some play games.

I expect it will. Maybe not this year,. but in the foreseeable future...

bittorrent works well behind nat, so might ipv4 apps behind nat. even if running as server, could just be proxyed imho, socks5 ?, but yes it will be hard to implement it, so not much praktical in it

I've always suspected that you have some very intelligent thoughts behind your postings. If only you could post them in Danish in one of the R20 echoes, where we could make proper sense of it all...

Methinks you'll be pretty alone celebrating that weekend.

Windows XP is still the best OS that Microsoft has produced IMHO.
