today, it would be called "a fork of frontdoor" since they both originate from the same source code...

but I liked InterMail's features better.

Yep, still works. 2.6x is coming along. Had to dust off everything and remember how it worked. Think I saw your name in the registration database as well. :)

Still building out the new 3.x version. Could be no one ever uses it again but I will. Heck even working to bring TPBoard BBS back to life here. LOL

Well it has been forgotten. :(

Since locating the lost sourcecode, I have been cleaning up and updating the old code, just work demands keep this moving pretty slowly.

2.6x may be the last old DOS release. I have removed all the keys from the system and chasing down a few bugs that prevent me from putting it out there but as soon as I can, will kick it out and let it get abused by anyone.

That is correct. At one time both Joho and Peter Stewart were partners on the platform. They split went their own directions.

I see joho's comments in the code as well. While they started the same, there are a number of differences in the platform today.

Funny you mention that. I know of something in the works but unable to speak to any details as it is too early to tell the full direction they are going.

I recently found the source to my WinToss (echomail processor) that was written for windows (early days) but needs a face lift and some improvement and I do have code that I have part of the way to toss mail into WinServer but needs more work. Time is my enemy but working to get the final dos version (maybe) released before I switch full time focus on the nextgen of InterMail.

Will keep folks posted. I still have to finish the app for ELIST that I stated I would complete.

Still building out the new 3.x version. Could be no one ever uses it again but I will. Heck even working to bring TPBoard BBS back to life here. LOL

The dial-up line I have is VoIP and not analog, off of a deal that
I have with T-Mobile. AT&T had been converting all of their analog
lines to VoIP, and they also "screwed my Mom over" before her death,
with their poor customer support. They got her to switch to DSL and
the VoIP line, but every time there was a power outage or a nearby
lightning strike, the DSL modem got fried. As a result, she had no
internet, and worse, no phone or 911 service.

So, when I called on the cellphone, I demanded to talk to a
supervisor. They hung up on me, and I blew I gasket. I was livid,
and when I redialed and got back in, I was told "this call may be
monitored or recorded for quality and training purposes". I said
"It damn well better be, for the $h!+ I just went through!!". My
Mom was sitting there, and I apologized to her afterwards, but
said "I can't blame you"....she heard it too.

They were going to make a 90 year old woman WAIT over a week
to get a new DSL modem. Well, they said they'd have a tech out
in the morning. When I told him what had happened, he exploded.
He said "There was no excuse for that!!". He gave us his personal
card and private number, adding "if the DSL modem dies again, call
me. Either myself, or one of my team will be out within 24 hours".
He added "this customer mistreatment is all too common". I was
praying blessings on him and his family.

But, when I had to put my Mom in a nursing home in late 2018,
I called them, and told them to CANCEL EVERYTHING...cellphone,
DSL, landline, etc. -- and said "I would NEVER be back". And,
it was if the representative didn't care. Of course, my chewing
out of them didn't help my personality <G>, but I wouldn't want
    to go back.

Unfortunately, with the VoIP lines, the old dial-up BBS and
fax calls don't work, even with the US Robotics 56K V.92 fax
modems. If they would, I could reactivate dial-up on the BBS.

With having the internet up all the time (except for when
thunderstorms are in the area, power outages from the high
electric use (I hope to install a generator this fall), or
the internet goes out), I run Internet Rex in daemon mode
for FTN mail runs. Synchronet uses the SEXPOTS add-on for
the dial-up lines to get into the telnet BBS, but as noted,
I don't think the VoIP lines would work. Otherwise, I'd love
to have InterMail online again for dial-up calls.

Just started on the 3.x a while back. Have a crude system working but it requires a bit of tlc to make everything work and still parts of it are tied to the old dos system. Yep, when cleaning out everything I have been caring around the country, came across the old drives that had all the old code for many systems I wrote, purchased or obtained (thought it was lost) and started playing with it again. I stepped away from programming for many years and lost a bit of knowledge.

Yep moving forward with updating the old system and cleaning it up as I go. Will post releases on www.intermail.net which is up but pretty much nothing there to see at this time. This echo will have updates but don't hold your breath, my time coding depends on my much my job requires of my time. :(

The 2.6x system will not have any keys, does not make sense to hold on to that as this is a hobby and I am just having fun.

it was if the representative didn't care. Of course, my
    chewing
out of them didn't help my personality <G>, but I wouldn't
    want
    to go back.

Unfortunately, with the VoIP lines, the old dial-up BBS
    and
fax calls don't work, even with the US Robotics 56K V.92
    fax
modems. If they would, I could reactivate dial-up on the
    BBS.

With having the internet up all the time (except for
whenthunderstorms are in the area, power outages from the
    high
electric use (I hope to install a generator this fall), or
the internet goes out), I run Internet Rex in daemon mode
for FTN mail runs. Synchronet uses the SEXPOTS add-on for
the dial-up lines to get into the telnet BBS, but as noted,
I don't think the VoIP lines would work. Otherwise, I'd
    love
to have InterMail online again for dial-up calls.

Sorry to hear about what you and your mom had to go thru. Things have really changed in the last 40 years.

On the VOIP, I have *kinda* been able to get Intermail to work with VOIP using MagicJack. I had to turn down the speed quite a bit but I have been able to send msgs to both my uplinks the last year with about a 70% rate of working. I am sure I could tweak it a bit more but with so few phone lines and folks to test with, did not make much sense to keep playing with it. I have so much other code to review and clean up.

    Dale,

Sorry to hear about what you and your mom had to go thru. Things have really changed in the last 40 years.

That is true. The saying "the customer is always right" doesn't seem to
    be valid, anymore.

On the VOIP, I have *kinda* been able to get Intermail to work with
VOIP using MagicJack. I had to turn down the speed quite a bit but I
have been able to send msgs to both my uplinks the last year with about
a 70% rate of working. I am sure I could tweak it a bit more but with
so few phone lines and folks to test with, did not make much sense to
keep playing with it. I have so much other code to review and clean
    up.

I used to have MagicJack, but was having a hard time downloading the
voice mail messages. The "fax line" is now with a T-Mobile line-link
utility. I have a cellphone with T-Mobile, but the phone is so flaky,
that I've switched it to "an answering machine" and "texting" only.
I also have a Verizon cellphone, with everything, and a Verizon Mi-Fi,
which I've had to use during my ham radio traffic nets, as the Xfinity
kept dropping out. Of course, when the Xfinity drops, that kills the
    fax line and the BBS.

Offhand, I'm not sure what my connect deal is with Xfinity, but I
have just the internet, as I don't watch TV at all.

    Daryl

... I xeroxed my watch. Now, I have time to spare.
