• file_id.diz hatch...

From Janis Kracht@1:261/38 to Vince Coen on Fri Jun 8 21:02:18 2018
    Hi Vince!

I see you hatched out a FILE_ID.DIZ file in the filemgr file echo... I'm sure you didn't mean to do that, right? :) The File echos are for archives only, often with file_id.diz in the archive where possible.

Just a fyi, this file_id.diz is _not_ using the standard for FILE_ID.DIZ files. A file_id.diz file is supposed to be 45 chars wide MAX, and 10 lines long MAX.

Keep that in mind for the next hatch you may do in your FDN.

    Thanks!
    Janis

    Yep, screwed the pooch.

Redone and this time has the file and not the diz file and on top of that it was the wrong one.

It is so rare that I hatch anything I always forget the process :(

Oh, well just as well We are off to Toronto on the 21st will need the rest - assuming the wife lets me that is but as I will be the one doing the driving I am not holding my breath !

Thanks for letting me know, derr ...

That might be a good project for me to learn how to use sed; just write a script to process a FILE_ID.DIZ to specs. Could put that into the hatching script file that MBSE uses...

That is a good idea :)

and use the o/p for the descriptions and another feature is to display the
file name for hatching and accept a reject for one or more.

I had a file_id.diz in the same area and ending up tossing it so had to go though all of the .hlo files deleting it.

Over all, hatch does need a clean up.

I've done a lot of neat stuff with scripting. I wrote a series of scripts that will pull a location's weather forecast off of Weather Underground's telnet server for the US and Canada and convert it to a text file for use with your BBS. This would be something fun to use as an excuse to learn. :D
