A reminder to ALL FDN Coordinators that you should ONLY be sending out 8X3 filenames!

In otherwords, this DOES NOT WORK:

    legl0055.tar.gz

To Jon: you need to store (not archive) this in a zip envelope, like this:

    zip -jm0 legl0055.zip legl0055.tar.gz

I thought we went through this before???

    Take care,
    Janis

Thank you! Doing so means that they will properly pass through here instead of stopping and plugging my system, forcing me to simply delete them. Again, thank you.

Gums up everything here as well.. bbbs understand tar gz files, but that doesn't help file descriptions.

    Take care,
    Janis

As I run Linux and mbse which is built for Linux I can handle standard long names - they just pass through. Oh, it also handles converting long names to little one's for all systems marked as must have 8.3, mostly old Dos systems.

    Just a note:

    Files hatched should be:
    1) in zip, rar, or some other archive type that can be commented (NOT gzip
    or tar.gz)
    2) carry the archive comment (filegate.hdr)
    3) the integrity of the original file should be kept, in other words DON'T
add files to an author's work. Archive comments do not add files to the
archive, that's why we use them.

    Take care,
    Janis
