Such short delays can sometimes be caused by high traffic on my site. It sometimes takes a lot of time to rework it.

    Have nice nights.

Unfortunately, sometimes my electricity goes out for a short time. The neighbors are renovating the apartment and turning off the whole house.
It also happens that I lose my connection to the Internet, but this is not often and not very long.
The node is at my home. The uninterrupted operation of its work cannot be compared with a data center.

    Have nice nights.

I use APC UPS Smart 750 with high capacity batteries (9Ah instead of 7.2Ah). It is enough for about an hour of equipment operation.
If it were a data center, there would be 2-3 independent power lines, UPS with batteries for a day of work and an automatically starting diesel generator, but I have a home node. ;)

    Have nice nights.

    Since we're talking UPSes, I think I have a APC Smart-UPS
1000VA ..or atleast it looks like the one on the APC site.

I found it stashed in a corner of the unit that I now use for
my shop. All it needed was a new battery for operation.

That was over 8 years ago now.

It can provide close to 2 hours for the DSL modem, switch,
debit/credit card terminal and the cash register.

Since the batt is pretty old, maybe I should time it
unplugged. I expected it to operate longer than it did in the
recent storm we had here that knocked everything out for 24
    hours.

I also have a APC Smart 750 for my main shop pc. It was in
Hibernate and scheduled to bootup at 6:30a. It didn't. The
only other thing plugged into the same battery was the
monitor. I have a habit of leaving it on. That was probably
enough to drain it after a few hours, I guess.

Based on all that processing you do, your system most
certainly sounds like a data center!

We have a battery shop here in Hamilton (called Acme battery) that carries all shapes & sizes of batteries. We have 4 or 5 UPSs for various things here at home.

When a battery decides to bite the bullet, we bring it to Acme Battery who recycles the old one for us and sells us a replacement for about ~$30.

May be worth seeing if you have a battery shop in your neck of the woods.

Nice. I end up paying for my Amazon prime membership with battery shipping. I have a UPS that needs a new battery now that I need to replace, hoping that BestBuy will accept the battery. I think my local garbage will, they recycle alkalines and rechargeables - just not quite that big!

Although, my UPS is a 550 kva, and it only gets me 10 minutes or so of run time. Might be time for a bigger UPS, although I really just need enough run time to survive little blips and to automatically shut my desktop down. It's running a RAID array, and power cuts cause it to go into a verify state that takes a good 6-8 hours and bogs the system down.

You might check with scrap metal dealers. I know that some around me accept some types of batteries.

That's a pretty good arrangement. I have had to resort to 3rd
party batteries for a couple of my Thinkpad laptops and they
are just not as good with running time as were the OEM.

Nope. I'm too rural and too far away from the hustle and
bustle of places like you describe.

This the APC UPS that I mentioned earlier:

    http://pics.rsh.ru/img/ups1000va_j4bu69ov.jpg

I am sure the number of minutes drops significantly when it
    actually needs to operate.

Yeah, it's definitely worth paying more for the Lenovo-branded
batteries. In the long run you end up paying the same as if you
bought 2 or 3 third-party batteries but with less waste.
