    Some clarification pls, from anyone.

Is the format of the areafix password described somewhere?

    If so: where?

The documentation for AreaFix 1.30 says...

    Password <net/node> <password> <accesslevel> [key [sysop]] (Limit:
    none)

In order for a node to have access to Areafix, it must have a password
set here. The password is then entered on the message subject line of
the change request message. The access level may be from 0 to 32767,
with 32767 being the highest, most privileged level. The length of
passwords should be limited to 8 characters, and is NOT case
    sensitive.

It seems to be quite outdated... however, Husky Project's areafix module allows
it to contain anything, and the comparison is case-insensitive (very bad!):

I'm pretty sure the format as introduced by Greg Dawson states that its up to eight characters, not case sensitive.

AFAIK, there's no FTSC standard. Most FTN software supports passwords up to 8 characters at least. But there are differences regarding case sensitivity, maximum length and special characters.

    ciao,
    Markus

Speaking of ancient tossers that work fine today... GEcho limits the password lenght to 16, FastEcho to 8. Both are forcing the UPPERCASE passwords in setup but accept lowercase too.
