• Getting SMTP working

    I have tried, off and on for a while, to get SMTP mail flowing from my board. I suspect that the ISP is cutting it off, but I am not real
    sure I am even getting that far into the outside world. :)

    .DNSBlacklistSubject=SPAM
    ;.RelayServer=
    ;.RelayPort=
    .; The following 2 keys are used if the RelayServer requires authentication (SMTP AUTH)
    .; Must also set one of the RELAY_AUTH options
    ;.RelayUsername=
    ;.RelayPassword=
    .DNSServer=192.168.0.1
    I have tried it with the DNSServer left blank also, and have tried it
    with the RelayServer info filled in with my ISP info (IP and Port).

    Let me know if you see something that is glaringly wrong. Thanks!

    Just a wild guess here... but if you're using your provider as a relay, you need to do RelayUserName & RelayPassword as well. Try Transfer port of 465 and Submission port of 587 while clicking Login under Relay Server.

    Sounds like a good guess, too. :) I will have to read the docs, play around with it some, and see what happens. Thanks!

    Your wild guess was correct. :) I was able to get the outbound mail working by using my vert QWK account as the relay server/user/password entries, just like the wiki says. :) Now, I just need to see if the responses make it back or not. :)

    I had to use a reflector for that to happen. I have a sub-domain of mail.tequilamockingbirdonline.net and no-ip reflects port 25 to port 465 so synch can get it and process it.

    Thanks. I spent some time hunting for that but could not find it.
    Glad one of us did. :)

    Bill,
    You mentioned needing the reflector service... do you also have to subscribe to their alternate-port smtp service to get outgoing mail working with your domain?

    No. I use my provider as a relay so I use their SSL ports to submit while supplying my username and password.

    How do you get synchronet to use the right hostname for outgoing mail?
    In sbbs.ini, in the Mail section, I have set my new hostname up as:

    I don't have that option in my sbbs.ini.

    HostName=capitolcityonline.net

    However, the email I send out is not using that. The from fields
    contain the relay host hostname.

    Run SCFG and under Networks > Internet E-Mail > System Address

    +[¦][?]----------------------------------------------------+
    ¦ Internet E-mail ¦ ¦----------------------------------------------------------¦
    ¦ ¦System Address tequilamockingbirdonline.net ¦
    ¦ ¦Inbound E-mail Semaphore ¦
    ¦ ¦Outbound E-mail Semaphore ¦
    ¦ ¦Allow Sending of E-mail Yes ¦
    ¦ ¦Allow File Attachments Yes ¦
    ¦ ¦Send E-mail Using Alias No ¦
    ¦ ¦Cost to Send E-mail 0 ¦ +----------------------------------------------------------+

    That should do it.... hopefully... :)
