MSGID and REPLY are needed by the receiver to build the links for the reply chains.

TZUTC is needed by the receiver to determine the chronological order of the messages arriving from different time zones.

CHRS is needed by the receiver to properly display non ASCII characters.

If you do not care about all that, then no, they are not required...

There are no message kludges at all. :-(

    Are they required?

MSGID and REPLY are needed by the receiver to build the links for the reply chains.

I noticed the lack of the MSGID when I tried to reply to the original message. Aftershock won't allow it.

Without the MSGID, Aftershock is unable to generate a REPLY kludge. While I would say that the missing MSGID is annoying for this reason alone, I would add that totally refusing to reply is a bit harsh as a punishment.

    Cheers, Michiel

To be fair, the Aftershock dev is aware of this and has added it to his "to be fixed" list.

When you try to reply you get: "Message has no MSGID kludge. This case is not yet supported".
I suppose that this "bug" may be fixed some day.

There's a workaround, however. This happens when you tap on the message with no MSGID from the echo's message list. However, if the previous message you viewed did have MSGID, and then you move (swipe to) the one without MSGID (without going back to the list), it lets you reply.
