• Interesting. What triggered that? Perhaps a warning is best sent to

    Hello Stas!

In that case, since Telegram announces when someone has
Joined (and everyone sees that), why not send a private
    "warning" message to that person?

I repeat again. The bot will not be able to privately, and
sending manually every time is too difficult.

Noted. Apparently there are aspects with the API that Telegram
    offers you than I realize.

I just thought that if Telegram generates the USERID #, then
your bot can easily construct a "reply" to the holder of that
    USERID.

I think you mentioned that you hoped to built an auto-welcome
PVT message to the user. I guess that is harder to do than
    imagined.

In anycase, I suppose most people would rather appreciate the
option to lurk silently in the background. If they suddenly got
automated messages indicating that their "silent" presence is
detected, then that could tick them off.

I suppose a better thing might be is to have a "channel" for the fidonet.telegram project and broadcast some member stats and
    activity data in there.

This was the case in the first versions. Then the messages were stored in separate files and an attempt was made to send them once a minute. Sent items were deleted. Now it's a little different and I'm thinking about how to store unsent messages.

In anycase, I suppose most people would rather appreciate the
option to lurk silently in the background. If they suddenly got
automated messages indicating that their "silent" presence is

A message with an offer to register now appears only after the user sends a message.

I'm not sure if I understand correctly what you are suggesting.

    Have nice nights.

As you may know, in addition to regular Groups, Telegram has
something they call Channels. My understanding is that Channels
operate like broadcasters or a news annoucement medium.

I *did* have a channel set up near the beginning of this
project. I called it "Fidonet START HERE". The idea was to have
a READ ONLY area and use it to broadcast updates to new echos
being added and about the general progress and updates of the
    f2t bot.

But I lost the channel when I lost access to Telegram due to an
annoying glitch. The folks at Telegram recovered my account,
and most of the groups/echos that I was admin of, but the
Fidonet START HERE channel was lost.

Anyway.. a channel to broadcast updates/changes/news to the
Fidonet-Telegram project for folks residing on the Telegram side
    could be useful.

But, since we have the FIDONET.TELEGRAM echo now, that might be
    good enough.

In general, they are not very different from the groups technically.

I was thinking of one to use primarily as a public (searchable
.vs. private) so that people looking for "fidonet" might find
info on your doorway into the fidonet echos.

As I said, I started one for that purpose before I had that
    Telegram hiccup just before December.

But, since we have the FIDONET.TELEGRAM echo now, that

Yes.. one click on an invite link, boom they're in.

But, as it sits now, finding the entry point requires people to
be already in fidonet. It has worked well from that vantage
    point.

If only to monitor echomail activity, the Telegram app is really
cool. I can "watch" the activity from any vantage point: phone,
DT, laptop ..and in any location at any time.

Ofcourse, the key for that is your tg_BBS and the fido2telebot
    must be operational.

Recently, I've hooked up to a fidonet-related Facebook group.
The reading experience is different being [1] someone writes a
Post, and [2] the "replies" are Comments. The Comments don't
seem to be searchable, only the original posts. :(

Whereas.. on Telegram, past posts *and* replies can be found.
