    I wanted to pass along the sad news that Robert "Bob" Ackley passed away on November 8, 2019. I have verified this independently.

    You became a sysop in 1999.
    Bob became a sysop in 2002.

    One can be a sysop first and operating an independent system long before being (fido) nodelisted. ;)

    I was a point in 1996. That's when I started actively carrying Fidonet.

    Bob became a sysop in 2002.

    Bob was a user long before then.

    You'll note that I didn't say anything about being a sysop in my original message but just participating in Fidonet.
