    Everyone --
Daryl is still having problems with his BBS, ham radio and other things from the storms in his area a week or more ago.
At last report he has no electric since the power was knocked out and
    the
winds took his meter off his house and other things.
Just wanted to keep everyone posted.
If I hear anything more I'll pass it along.

Thank you for your note regarding Daryl's system - I hope he's doing ok.. I noticed he's been 'away' for a bit... thanks also to Joe for forwarding the info to you.

Now, has anyone heard from Ben Ritchey, 1:393/68? I've been trying to get through to him as well with no luck.. :(

    Take care,

    Hello Janis,

Now, has anyone heard from Ben Ritchey, 1:393/68? I've been trying to get through to him as well with no luck.. :(

I read a post by Ben saying he couldn't recieve inbound connects because of a hardware change that was out of his hands and he was looking for a solution.

He was polling periodicaly but I have not had an inbound connect since June 8 and that is also the date of the last file I got in the nasa area.

I'm not sure why but I hope Ben is alright and will return when possible.

Yes, I remember when he posted that.

That's probably the same for me, thanks for your note.

I'm not sure why but I hope Ben is alright and will return when possible.

Definitely! I'll see if I can dig up some other ways to connect with him.

    Thanks again,
    Janis

i have a lusfiber.net email address for him that was good as of 2019 Feb 17... if you want it, just ask... you know how to get hold of me numerous ways in private... not sure if it has been published in fidonet before or not so don't feel comfortable posting it outright ;)

    Janis,

Thank you for your note regarding Daryl's system - I hope he's doing ok.. I JK>noticed he's been 'away' for a bit... thanks also to Joe for forwarding the JK>info to you.

I'm back online after over 2 weeks.

Severe weather blasted through Arkansas on June 19...with hail over 4
inches in diameter in western Arkansas, tornadoes in southeast Arkansas,
    and hurricane force winds elsewhere.

One such storm uprooted a tree just up the street from me. It fell on
the power lines, ripping in half the power pole across the street, and
pulling the electric meter off the north side of the house.

The night of the storms, it wasn't too bad in here, but with no power
or air conditioning, the heat index was at dangerous levels (above 100).
It was like taking a hot shower, then climing into bed, still naked and
wet. I didn't even get 5 hours of sleep that night. Knowing people die
in conditions like this, I got a room at an area motel. The cost of it,
and paying my Mom's income tax bill, wiped out my planned train trip to Albuquerque in September.

The insurance company still considered the structure "livable",
because there was still running water, and no other damage. I want to
know how they consider being inside a structure with those temperatures
as "livable". To them, it's a catastrophe if they have to pay the claim.

Now, has anyone heard from Ben Ritchey, 1:393/68? I've been trying to get JK>through to him as well with no luck.. :(

Saw he passed away...but I didn't see the message until after I got
    back online.

    Alan,

Sadly, I saw where he passed away...but I didn't get the message until
after I got back online...having been offline for over 2 weeks due to
storm damage (with no power or air conditioning), then upgrading to
    Windows 10 Pro 32-bit.

I saw that too but never commented on it.

Ben did a lot for Fidonet. He send out the nasa files every day with very few exceptions.

I was connected with Ben's node and he helped me overcome a lot of problems that I had. He will be missed.
