I just replaced an LCD cable in a Thinkpad T430S laptop.

What a pain in the ass... I think my hardware-tinkering days are numbered.

I'm sticking to my very not-ultrabook T410. One of the last series
with a traditional keyboard and easier to work on. It is a brick,
though, especially with the 9-cell battery.

Mine are done. I'm typing this to you on a chromebook. I do still
do the software hacking (I've got it dual booting between ubuntu and
chromeos, as well as a chroot install of ubuntu for office work).

Under $300, when it breaks i'll chuck it down the garbage shoot and
    buy another one.

Don't chromebooks have missing function keys?

There's an option to make the top row behave as function keys.
Then you use teh chromebook functions hold down the search key. Works
    just fine!

I thought the Chromebook was just one big giant "search" key?

THis summer... I really want you to come to the trailer and get drunk.
If you do I will bring the Chromebook and show you in person with a bit of hacking you can turn a under $300 laptop into something usable.\

A reviewer once said that the T410/420 were the last Thinkpads that
felt like a desktop. The build quality, the matte screen, keyboard
layout and full keyboard travel went away in later models.

For me, the keyboard layout, the trackpoint and the matte screen are
all dialed into my memory; I've used T series thinkpads since my T42
in 2004, which I still have and use occasionally.

Thats the thing - it seems that for the most part, the keyboard arrangement of a T series *rarely* changes and so the "tactical feedback" starts to become second hand.

Whats interesting is that new cars now are all about having the "touch screen infotainment", so theres no tactical feedback and I think more chance for distracted-driving. You can't feel for the radio volume, heater controls, etc.

Don't forget a distracted driving ticket can be issues for changeing the radio station. THis is part of the plan to issue more tickets, and with
luck cause someone who drives for a living to loose his license. This way
it's one more person on a cheque instead of working, and puts PM TrustFund one more step closer to being king.

I believe in a recent poll or whatever that she was ranked as the least popular premier in all of Canada. Its not surprising that PM's handlers are having him stay clear of her... or "it"... or Orville Redenbacher.. or whatever name/gender "it" wants to identify with.
