When you release it I want to burn some more cd's but I would like it to work with the custom version of wcnav and I would like it to install
ie5.1 on win 95/98 machines. Will this be possible?

I'm going to put out a new installer this week into the gamma
conference fixing a problem on 98 that was reported, and now fixed.
Have you tried the custom version yet? What results did you get?

process will have to be set by the end user.

I think I can get the MS IEAK to install WCNav right after IE5
installs but there is no where I can find in it to preset the browse in
new process. Is there a way around this? Does this switch have to be set
for it to work properly??? I can see now that this will be a nightmare trying to explain it to all the users....

This setting is in the registry. For IE5, it's at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\internet explorer\advanced options\browse\browse_new_proces\
There are a bunch of variables in there, but the one that probable makes
the difference is 'DefaultValue'={'yes','no'}
I haven't looked at IEAK at all, does it provide a way for you to edit
the registry? If not, you'd need some kind of program you could execute from IEAK that would do it.
Remeber though, it's only needed if the user is using virtual winsock to connect. Otherwise, you shouldn't need this setting.

I understand this but you see I need a good installer program that will
put on WcNav with the latest browser on a CD. I would really like to
make the install a little more user friendly. The way it is now is just
too many hoops for the point and click users we have to jump through to
be able to install the program and connect with the system.
I am open to a better way???? Any way that makes it user friendly. I
want to stress that I feel for WcNav to fly it has to be user friendly
from the install to it's use.

What's not user friendly about it? It's a basic installation, with only
two questions, where to put it, and what to call the start menu for it,
both which are defaulted. If there is some usability issue with the installer, please explain it so I can address it.
The only thing not built in to the installer is the web browser. The
reason for that is that most people are using 32 bit browsers at this
point, and some many updates/patches etc. are appearing for browsers at
this point, it's an item best left alone.
What I would suggest is getting some kind of autorun utility which lets
you build an autorun program, which you could build menu's in (like the
one we use on our cd), have a button for the web browser installer, the wcnav installer, and instructions button to provide some basic
instructions, and maybe an 'about our company' button.

I don't think I made myself clear about it being user friendly. The installation of WcNav is user friendly as long as it works. In
the past many times you had to jump through hoops getting it
installed. It has caused quite a few illegal operations in 95/98
conflicting with other systray items. Again this is the old one. Getting
a current browser (MSIE 5) configured to work with it is not at all a
user friendly operation.
WcNav itself has a lot of work needed on it as well. The message
client especially. I really don't know what your plans are for the users interface for WINS 2000. I wish I did so I would know which way to
leap. Right now I am thinking of just using WcPPP and burning IE5 with outlook on the cd's and ditching suport for the nav all together.
