Perhaps you should have involked the old camping/trail rule which says something like "if you complain about the cooking -- you cook next

We got a 4 lb corned beef on sale for $2.49 per pound (flat cut). Point
cuts were a $1 cheaper, but we don't care for them. Gail will do it for
St. Patricks day on the 17th. Probably stove top versus crock pot
    though.

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.05

Title: Corned beef and cabbage/ crockpot method
    Categories: Testing, Crockpot
    Yield: 4 Servings

    MMMMM----------------O'DONNELS CORNED BEEF REALLY---------------------
Good - bought at Giant Foods

    MMMMM----------------------------MEAT---------------------------------
    4 lb Corned beef brisket
    ADD SPICE PACKET &

    MMMMM-----------------HOME MADE PACKET OF SPICES----------------------
    Tie the following in cheese
    Cloth bag/tie with string
    1 ts Whole cloves
    1 ts Oregano
    1 ts Basil
    1 ts Black mustard seeds
    1 ts Yellow mustard seeds
    1 ea Bay leaf
    1 ts Black peppercorns

    MMMMM-------------------------VEGETABLES------------------------------
    6 ea Med red potatoes
    6 md Carrots, peeled
1 sm Head of cabbage, quartered
    4 c Water

    Using 6 quart crockpot.

Place potatoes, peeled carrots in bottom of crockpot. Cut brisket
into two pieces, place on top of the vegetables.

Combine spice package that came with meat and home made spice packet
in cheesecloth big enough to tie all spices tightly shut with string.
Place cheesecloth bag into crockpot liquid.

    Turn crockpot on high

Cook on HI for 6 to 7 hours. (Potatoes/carrots were done in 5 hours -
I removed them from crockpot. Brisket was fork tender at 5 hours.
Took vegetables out, cut cabbage into quarters, placed in bottom of
crockpot and placed brisket on top of cabbage to hold the cabbage
    down. Cooked another 2 hours.

Experiment in future with length of time for everything.

Variation of recipe on package of corned beef brisket.

    Hi Dale,

for 6 weeks. As oldest daughter, I had the most responsibility for
keeping the house up--cooking, laundry, etc. Younger siblings helped
some but I did most of it--without a microwave. (G) I learned how to
cook, my siblings gave lots of critical reviews. Did that for 3 years,
    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Perhaps you should have involked the old camping/trail rule which says something like "if you complain about the cooking -- you cook next
    time".

Trouble is, next meal was usually breakfast which was just a bowl of
cold cereal and a slice of bread with jelly, orange juice and milk.
Lunch wasn't usually much more cooking than that either. Also, as the
oldest, I was expected to do the cooking--would not have let some of the younger siblings near the stove. The sister below me baked cookies and
simple (cake) desserts but the youngest sister and younger brother
didn't do any. Thankfully, older brother had a job away from home for
the summer so his criticisms only came on week ends.

We got a 4 lb corned beef on sale for $2.49 per pound (flat cut).
Point cuts were a $1 cheaper, but we don't care for them. Gail
will DS> do it for St. Patricks day on the 17th. Probably stove top
versus DS> crock pot DS> though.

Sounds good, we may stop over at Wegman's tomorrow and see what we can
    pick up on sale.

    Catch you later,
