From Alan Beck@1:229/426.36 to all on Sat Oct 10 08:43:33 2020
So I tried Larry Bond's "Dangerous Ground" and realized I don't have to keep reading this if I don't want to.

Asimov is what I picked up next.

"Rendevous with Rama" is the title.

That sounds like it should be familiar, but I can't place it.

It's been many years since I've read that. I remember enjoying it, but
    not much else.

I've been reading more "independent" authors lately.

Great story, a couple of sequels if you get caught up in the world.

So, who are the current in the last 25 years popular Hard

I have not been able to read due to a medical condition, I
have lost the last 25 years.

Now I can read a novel in 3-4 days and I am very glad for
    it.

    Congratulations!

Two of my favorite (sci-fi) books are from when I was about 16 (the 80's). Memories by McQuay and Millenium by John Varley.

Sorry, I can't cite anything from the last 25 years. It's very difficult for me to
find a book I *really* like. Most recently I've been reading musical biographies,
such as 1970, and a bio about George Harrison. Also earlier this year read an authorized bio of Gene Roddenberry and Robin Williams. All good for those into that type of thing.

East of Eden by John Steinbeck is great, but doesn't fit into any of the above categories. ;)

    Andy,

    Thanks for that.

Anyone else have some favorite sci-fi novelists?

Of course there are the Stargate Fandimoniom books, but some are pretty "camp". Sort of hokey.

I haven't been following this thread, so apologies if they've already been mentioned:

Ready Player One by Ernest Cline
Daemon, Freedom & Kill Decision by Daniel Suarez (3 book series)
Zero Day, Trojan Horse & Rogue Code by Mark Russinovich (3 book series)

Zero Day & Daemon are probably tied for first place for my favourite sci-fi novels. I own the Kobo e-book & Audible audio versions as I sometimes like to listen & read along at the same time.

Haven't read them in a long time, might be time for a re-read.

My son has it, I'll check it out.

Daemon, Freedom & Kill Decision by Daniel Suarez (3 book series)

    Started reading Daemon last week!

Zero Day, Trojan Horse & Rogue Code by Mark Russinovich (3 book series)

    The Microsoft/Sysinternals guy? Neat.

    ... Simple subtraction

The intro blurb to Daemon, Daniel Suarez (Daemon # 1) sounds similar the TV series NEXT, where some "code" escapes out of the lab onto the internet an starts manipulating people .

Fun fact: When Daniel published this book, he used the pseudonym Leinad Zeraus which is his name spelled backwards.

Yup, same guy! So at least you know the tech is realistic in it.

I just watched that over the weekend & was thinking the same thing!

I remember staying up way too late some nights reading/listening to this book because I was just too captivated by the story. "Just one more chapter..."
