• Getting files to DOS?

From Kurt Weiske@1:218/700 to All on Wed Nov 18 14:42:41 2015

I'm tempted to take a thin client that boots into DOS and Windows CE as an antique box. It doesn't have a floppy drive, and the flash memory isn't removable so I'm not sure how I'd be able to get files onto it.

There isn't a USB storage driver for DOS, is there? or a USB floppy driver for DOS?

I wonder if I could boot with a bootable USB stick into DOS and copy the files over to the filesystem from there?

I'm not sure if I follow exactly what his antique box is. But, sence Window CE is a 32-bit multi-tasking multi-threading system. Have you thought about just making a multi-boot, DOS and Windows CE system. That way you can send files to a server on the Win CE and it will also see the other DOS drive.

I have a microxp, FreeDOS/DOS7 multi booting on old hardware here. All the Drive partitions can be seen and used. Making transfering files no problem.

the thin client boxes that i'm aware of use netboot to get their OS and file system which is all stored on another machine...

The systems are Intel Atom-based thin clients with DOS and Windows 3.1 loaded, and it could be imaged with Windows CE, but don't know if you can dual boot DOS/Windows CE.

Have You tried plugging a USB Floppy Drive in it?

If it has USB connections on it, that is.

The box has a USB 2.0 connection -- not sure if DOS could see a USB floppy though.

It'd be great if there were some BIOS trickery to make a USB drive look like a physical drive.
