I regret to inform you that one of our own, Ben Ritchey, passed away on June 27 at the age of 65.

I will miss him a lot. He helped me for decades with FTN technology questions and provided me with many things, including his source code to the current Elist bot. We were working together on an issue concerning MOD RUL updates not working.

Time marches on and waits for no man, sadly.

    Rest in peace, Ben.

Bummer .... none of us get out of here alive. But, we're seldom ready
when the journey is over. I only knew Ben from his sporadic appearances
in the Cooking Echo - but, 65 is young (says the 77 year old).

All we can do is live it by a bit of philosophy I picked up from a Datsun/Nissan ad on the glass teat ... "Life's a journey. Enjoy the
    ride."

It's worked for me - so far.

I don't know the cause of death but it was sudden.

Indeed. Even if sometimes we can't see past our own noses.

It's worked for me - so far.

    It's all you can do.

    Later,

I am sorry to hear that. I have been active in Fidonet for a long time now. How long has been in Fidonet?

Ben was active in Fidonet for a very long time. I started officially in Fidonet in 1996 as a point and in 1998 as a node. He was around then.

    Later,

    according to

    https://nodehist.fidonet.org.ua/?name=ben+ritchey

ben's first address appeared in Aug 1997... not sure how accurate that is, though... some nodelists may be missing on that site but for now, it is the best we have...

That rhymes with my memory of when I first met Ben. I really didn't get into Fidonet fully until I was nodelisted for the first time. I was actually a lot more active in Sysops' Tech Net (STN) at that time and Fidonet was more of an afterthought. As STN slowly died off, I became more active in Fidonet and that's when I first met Ben.

    Later,
    Sean
