For the second time now in a few months, BinkD 1.1a-95 just randomly terminates with no error message, nothing in the log, no indication of any problem whatsoever, after a good month or so of uptime.

    Hello Nick!

I cannot share your experience, as my systems all run on linux.
There are however some sidenotes I would like to make.

The problem you encounter could be caused by a memory leak and thus may
depend on the ammount of available memory. A regular restart could
circumvent a unsuspected shutdown and as a consequence demonstrate that
there is indeed a memory leak.

Why does this happen to ypu and apparently not to others. I have been
experimenting with DBridge for some time and I was surprised at the way you
    trigger DBdrige for outgoing mail.

Under common circumstances binkd scans the outgoing directory every minit,
and initiates transfers for outgoing mail.
To me it looks like you also refresh the config files, or its timestamp,
    to initiate a mail scan.

There should be no harm in what you are doing, but on my system .e.g. the
configfile timestamp is only triggerd, when I change a config parameter and
once a day when a new nodelist is generated.

So in general you may be refreshing the configfile more often as others.

I hope that my suggestions can help to mitigate your problem and also help
to pinpoint the cause of your problem.

I have seen binkd to exit, not crash, in some rare case when config changes. I don't know why.

Have you been running binkd with maximum logging?

As per the site download.binkd.org, Nick has the latest version for Win32. Does that not also get updated if there's a new version or hatched on the FTN?

Just a question but do you run it as a service?

If so, how much trouble would it be to run it foreground? I have sometimes found this useful in troubleshooting things in the *nix world (run under screen/foreground).

Once in a land far way I ran binkd under windows but it was much older version.
Just speculating but could windows updates be causing issues?

    Take care,

I think you're missing the point. The issue is where does one find the source code to compile it, no matter what spice of OS one is using. As I said, I would normally get any updates via the FTN or on the website I quoted earlier. Latest they have there is dated 2016.

    Nick,

Just a question but do you run it as a service?

    Nope.

I am no windows expert but another thing you might try is running in compatibility mode (especially if running windows 10).

Try running from a cmd.exe session so you can see what if any messages are printed out before bailing.

    Take care,

    Matt
