The Lufthansa Group decided on Friday to reduce the total flight capacity by up to 50 percent in the coming weeks. The aviation company is forced to do this after the bookings have "drastically" collapsed by the corona virus.

"This measure is intended to reduce the financial consequences of the falling demand. It complements previously planned saving measures in the area of personnel, material costs and project budgets," reports the Lufthansa Group.

Just a week ago, the German aviation group announced that capacity on European flights would be reduced by a maximum of a quarter, but the situation has deteriorated considerably since then. Now flights to all markets are canceled.

The Lufthansa Group has more than 750 aircraft. In addition to Lufthansa itself, which is considering keeping the entire A380 fleet on the ground, the companies SWISS, Austrian, Eurowings and Brussels Airlines also belong to this company.
