Maybe they flew through volcanic ash on final and didn't know it... Not too sure what is in the air over London these
days. . ;-)- Hide quoted text -

Just to hijack the thread:
I saw the TV footage of the Captain... Maybe I'm over sensitive but
it struck me that he is a grand standing whippy dip (plus his hat is 2
sizes too small)... He rambled on how as captain of the aircraft he
was responsible for safety, yadda, yadda, but he had a great crew,
yadda, yadda... Then lamely concludes his FO was actually flying the >airplane... Since the FO was the flying the beast we should have
heard from him instead of Cap'n Whippy Dip...

I love the theater regarding this flight.
"the flight management system demanded throttle up and the engines
didnt" yada yada
why not something along the lines of British Airways fuel management
policies were shown to be seriously flawed when one of its 777
aircraft ran out of fuel 100 yards short of the runway after a long
flight from china?
I know the fall out in the eyes of the public would be too great to
state the bleeding obvious.
flamers please tell me how much fuel was in the aircraft and why after extensive damage to the engines there was no fire.

Most laypersons assume that the captain flies the plane, even when
he's not flying the plane.
