On Tuesday morning, a plane landed for the first time at Beijing Daxing Airport, the new mega airport of the Chinese capital. It was a test flight with a Cessna 680 Citation.

In the coming months, there will be more test flights, so that the communication and navigation systems can be extensively tested. In September the airport must open for commercial air traffic.

Daxing Airport will be one of the largest airports in the world, with a capacity of 100 million passengers per year. Among others, China Southern and China Eastern Airlines are relocating their operations in Beijing to the new airport.

Daxing Airport is complementary to Beijing Capital Airport, which is already the second largest airport in the world (after Atlanta). Air China and Hainan Airlines continue to use the 'old' airport.

The development of Daxing Airport is part of a master plan of the Chinese government to open more than 200 new airports by 2035. For example, all 1.4 billion Chinese people should be able to fly.
