• New airport for Dubai delayed

The expansion of Al Maktoum International Airport into Dubai's second mega airport will not be completed until 2030, the government of the emirate reports in writing a tender for the substructure. That is five years later than the earlier planned opening in 2025.

Al Maktoum, better known as Dubai World Central (DWC), is currently still a small airport mainly used by freight carriers and price fighters, but Dubai wants to expand this airport to an annual capacity of 130 million passengers (and in the long term 260 million ).

The plan is to move Emirates to Al Maktoum after the expansion, so that this airline company gets more room to grow than at the crowded Dubai International Airport. However, analysts doubt whether the government can pay the costs of a second mega-airport.
