That does sound rather widespread and impressive

Last I heard there are still some without landlines which include phones and internet access. From my understanding their power has been restored as of the
new year or thereabouts. I was pleasantly surprised to see the internet connection come up on Christmas Day (evening). I honestly thought it would be another week or so given all the local damage which I assumed was at least as bad everywhere else, which turned out to be accurate.

Did your utilities get help from outside the region to get the access
back up....? They did well to get you reconnected speedily... :) With
any luck, the weather won't take it out again any time soon.... :)

They did well to get you reconnected speedily

For sure. I am still amazed by it. However I did have to throw away some food
but thank goodness I ddin't stock up for Christmas which many did.

I am not betting the farm on it. Power outages in these parts at this time of year are part and parcel of life in this neck of the woods. Usually no more than 8 hours.

That goes a long way towards getting services up and running quickly,
having plenty of extra help....

Usually no more than 8 hours.

That's more easily survivable... :) Last year, I think it was, we had
an extended power outage throughout our area... we kept our freezers
closed, and barely opened the fridge, and managed not to lose any
food... but we ate out (there were a few restaurants that either had
power or had generators) until power was restored... thankfully we got
ours back just before we were going to need to figure out some alternate
living situation, for ourselves and the cats, as the house was getting
too cold.... Turned out that my sister had a generator, so was able to
keep power at her house... had we known, we might have gone there... :)

Maybe. I heard that there were hotels, bed and breakfast, etc. giving them free beds/food/etc on the downtime they got so it wouldn't surprise me if there
were a few extra perks like that once the power was restored. Also I noticed quite a few of the local farms were having outdoor feasts for quite large amounts of guests. I'd be willing to go out on a limb and say many of those guests were power restoration crews.

Not an option here. I think I'll save up my pennies and invest in a generator this summer for next winter. I've seen a few advertised the will do both gas and propane, and although there is a power drop running on propane (around 300 watts) I think the running time will be longer on a decent sized propane tank which makes it more tempting than the short uptime running on gas. We'll see.
Hopefully there won't be a major outage before spring.

That is what I am hoping for but I don't think they go on sale all that often.
Maybe if they are clearing out stock for newer models? We'll see ... as if we have a choice.

Speaking of Raspberry Pi's, note this message is from the upgraded aarch64-raspi3b+-linux-gnu. I finished it earlier today. Seems to be working and is definetly an improvement from the previous build.

Sounds crazy, but I have no trouble at all believing it.... Widespread
outage, and suddenly everybody and his brother needs it yesterday... and
it doesn't take long before the suppliers are out of stock as well...

I was more thinking that there wouldn't be any inflated prices when the
need wasn't so critical... but yes, there might be some sort of sale if
there were new models coming in.... Probably would depend on how high
