• 52 bottles of beer on the wall...

    Hey Nancy!

so, a bottling from a variety of ages

Maybe depending on how they are bottling them. Probably multiple barrels so they may not want to go out on a limb as to the age of each barrel other than it is no less than nine and no more than fifteen years. :::shrugging my shoulders:::

Must be enough of the 15yo to mellow it out

Or mostly 10 to 12yo. That would be my guess.

It would appear that Macallan changed their mind about replacing
the age-stated bottlings with the colour-coded... or at least
    haven't fully implemented it

Perhaps. I see https://www.themacallan.com is advertising 10, 12, 15, 17, 18, 21, 25 and 30 year olds so I am uncertain about the schpeil about colour codings. Mind you I don't see anyone advertising any of those for sale, certainly not locally.

The Gold can help you space out the 15yo

The 15yo is reserved for 2018-01-01. After that we'll see but my plan is to return to my normal teetotalling ways for at least seven months after that. However it isn't uncommon for someone(s) to drop by at this time of year and persuade me to part with more of the gold but after 2018-01-01 I won't be imbibing for a healthy stretch. I am guessing the gold won't survive beyond Christmas. The 15yo will definetly be around for awhile and could easily be around for 2019-01-01. We'll see I am sure.

    Life is good,
    Maurice

If they aren't mixing them, then there's no reason to not give the age
from the barrel it's bottled from.... But it might have been a way to
use up odds and ends... ;)

Possibly some of each... ;) Probably wouldn't take too much 15yo if
    it were mostly 10 to 12... :)

Maybe they changed their mind about going to colours... maybe they got
some backlash about blending... not exactly a single malt if it's
    blended... ;)

Seems to me other years, you've had help imbibing after the first of the
year, so you might want to try to stretch the gold until after then.. ;)
But my point was that since you have the gold, it will protect the
    15yo.. ;)

Just don't let any of the usual suspects know it exists, and you'll
have an easier time of keeping it around... :)
