    Hey Wilfred!

I think I have come up with a routine that corrects the msg datetime stamp relative to the user's perspective that also compensates for the corrupted TZUTC offset. The above corrected datetime was generated from the msg I am replying to. The output's format in strftime()-speak is "%F %T %z" and can easily be adjusted to the enduser's preference. I don't believe it would be wise to output it to a flag given it is to the enduser's configuration rather than fidonet at large.

What a hassel. Personally I don't see it being worth the effort but all things considered I believe the above corrected datetime stamp, or something like it, would be an appropriate replacement for the ftn msg header's datetime stamp and should have happened roughly 18 years ago.

Those are non standard. And the 'TZUTC: -0800' is missing. Now if there is fido software that sorts messsages chronologically, it can't do it correctly.

And the 'TZUTC: -0800' is missing.

I caught that after I read it on this point. The above corrected datetime is for YOUR msg and NOT this msg (reply). Your msg has the date "24 Nov 20 13:01:47" with "TZUTC: 0100" which is the same as "2020-11-24 04:01:47 -0800" when corrected to PST.

    Hey Wilfred!

If the above "On" date time, and TZUTC are corresponding
correctly to eachother, that is enough for me. ;)

That works for me. As you can see this reply is wrt UTC and is up to the second accurate which is all it needs to be to ensure it isn't the weak link in any attempt to "correct" it for whatever evil, demented purpose the enduser has in mind without altering the original. Thus based on the ftn datetime and the TZUTC a correction to your TZUTC would result in the date being displayed as "2020-11-24 15:27:28 +0100". For TZ=PST8PDT the corrected datetime would be displayed as "2020-11-24 06:27:28 -0800" which I can confirm by looking at the clock on the wall.

    It is all relative.

    Long time no talk.

    How's everyone doing?

Just checking in to see if everything on my end is working correctly.

    Thanks!

Yeah, I see he's in "Ashburn" which mean he's running it in the cloud? :)

(I've seen quite a few BBSes that way, actually!)

Yeah, I see he's in "Ashburn" which mean he's running it in the cloud? :)

Ashburn is the best place in the world for a BBS to live. It's warm, the grass is greener. We've got the Potomac Heritage Trail and the Ashburn Icehouse, so the BBS is never without fun things to do. ;)

Plus running the BBS on a VPS has perks. There's no need to deal with dns service, the IP is static, the home computer is unaffected, processor speed is incredible.

    Ashburn is the best!
