    Hallo Nancy!

And yes, the cybertoast function looks good... ;)

I thought so too. However, the keyboard should make it work as well as it looks or at least from my perspective.

It was supposed to be here yesterday. Maybe tomorrow. I the meantime this works as well as the fido node so it can wait.

    Eventually.... ;)

I am guessing the keyboard is being held up at Canada Customs. I hear there is a real log jam there thanks to covid-19, which is why I had to order it in the first place given that anything local has been closed. Mind you I doubt anything local would have had the right one with the proper hacking keys.

I don't know but given how long it took it was definetly held up somewhere along the line.

And for all that, at least it worked when it came... <G>

It works but leaves much to be desired, I am blaming Android itself for the extremely poor keyboard support but am not going to do anything about it seeing the Android OS isn't anything I feel obligated to in any meaningful way. Just for fun I did manage to get replying working and this is the very first official reply from the tablet using the now crippled keyboard. Very, very sad but it does 'work' so ... :::shrugging shoulders:::

    Hallo Nancy!

    Now you know... :)

No big surprise though since I already had a bad experience with a chromebook and it's poor excuse for a keyboard. However I was hoping that all of the keys on the bluetooth keyboard would have worked but some of very important ones - Esc for example - don't work as they are expected for vi. One is forced to use the onscreen control keys instead which I have yet to figure out if they can be disabled without breaking anything ... not that it really matters given it might as well be broken given Android's lameness. What a waste of a cpu etc. running that poor excuse for a linux distribution. Google should hang it's head in shame.

    experiment... :)

Yep. I just need to fix a few bash scripts to make up for Google's sad excuse for an OS. Also I thought I might try compiling it's own uEmacs and see if that is better than vim for this particular idea. uEmacs can do utf8 so it should have a future.

Sounds like it was just as well they weren't disabled yet, though, as
you needed to use some of them....

    Well, that's a disappointment...

So far it looks to be a deal breaker considering I haven't turned it on since the first official reply was sent from it. The thrill is gone.

uEmacs can do utf8 so it should have a future.

That sounds like a good idea... ;)

I have yet to try it out but given that it successfully compiled the binkd it is using to recieve/send msg's then I am guessing it can also compile and run uEmacs. We'll see ... eventually.

Possibly a new experiment to grab your attention for a bit....

So far it hasn't. I haven't even powered it up since the last replies I sent in your direction from it. I was still using vi on there and have yet to ship the uEmacs source over to it to see if it can compile it. Maybe later today I'll give it a shot but don't hold your breath. I find toys like that far too annoying especially the swiping crap nevermind it crippling a perfectly good keyboard. :::mutter, mutter, mutter:::

Anyhow this still works and I did test uEmacs on it just to make sure that it could work if and when it actually matters. So far it hasn't but nice to have it in reserve.

I noticed. Not too worry as I've been distracted with other things.

I suspect nothing has changed on that front

Yes and no. Lately most of the work destined for the android thingy has been done on a far more capable pc which is where I am replying from. Also uEmacs will require some serious hacking to get working on the tablet so I put that aside. We'll see but don't go holding your breath ... if it even matters at all which I suspect it doesn't.
