• Amiga32 Germany Meeting in Neuss

From Ingo Juergensmann@2:2452/413 to All on Tue Oct 3 15:33:36 2017
    Hello everybody!

After I ordered a X-Surf 100 NIC from Individual Computers I spotted some adverts in the package:

After the parties for Amiga30th, there seems to be some inquiries for a follow-up event.

You can find all necessary information on http://www.amiga32.de/ (Website seems
to be in German, at least for me)

    Ingo

    Hello everybody!

Oooh, I would so like to get one of those for my Amiga 2000. Is it good?

Well, at least it is working. You would need to set the ZII jumper to on in an A2000, of course.
The benefit is that you can add an USB module as well to the card and habe 2x USB 2.0 ports, I think.

It's not that cheap, of course, but an improvement to the old Hydra NIC I was using...

I think it will be not the last X-Surf 100 I will buy from icomp.de as I have some more Amigas that might benefit from an upgrade from Ariadne to X-Surf...

I am extremely happy with my X-surf 100. Stable, slick, simple installation. Nothing to complain about! Highly recommended.

Great feedback - thanks Ingo. Gonna buy one for my A2000.

Well, I enjoy my X-Surf 100 as well, especially as it is faster than the Hydra,
but when I would have an Ariadne inside of an A2000 I don't think I would consider using an X-Surf 100, except for the reason of having the USB stuff working as well.
OTOH I already have a broken Ariadne that looses it's MAC address for some unknown reason.

So, in an A2000 you won't get much speed improvements over an Ariadne, because of ZorroII bus. If you're looking for attaching USB stuff, than I would say: go
    for it!

It's not that you'll get full 100 Mbit/s in ZorroIII mode either. It will silghtly faster than a 10 Mbit/s card, but it's new hardware, it has USB connectivity and it supports one of the few still existing Amiga hardware vendors. :-)

PS: last week I enjoyed a visit to Stockholm, mostly walking around Gamlastan. Only bad thing was that we didn't had enough time to visit Hard Rock Cafe, before we needed to get back onto our cruise ship. :-)

It must have a working auto-detection - I never set the ZII jumper and it works
    in my A2000.

    Best regards,

What can I use the USB port for?

Hard Rock Cafe... it's overrated. You didn't miss a thing. :D

Well, for USB stuff. Icomp writes on http://wiki.icomp.de/wiki/RapidRoad:

A license of the USB stack "Poseidon" and corresponding drivers are
included with the card. Product support is only done by individual
    Computers and our resellers.

So, I guess you can attach any USB device that Poseidon supports. :)

Hard Rock Cafe... it's overrated. You didn't miss a thing. :D

Sure, just wanted to get an over-priced T-Shirt as some sort of collectors item... :)
