Hi!
I've had a pretty hot debate with another ex-Amigoid lifeform yesterday
evening
about the portability of Amiga games to Linux, especially where we
have the
source available somewhere, like Boulderdaesh - has anybody ever
attempted
it,
or is my idea just a pipe dream?
The rationale behind this is that AmigaOS4 will be something unix-like anyway,
and since so many people will be running Linux on some other platform
(like
Intel, sparc or MIPS), we might have more games available, meanwhile
giving
away an incentive to actually buy new Amiga hardware. Is it worth the advantage
if we want our platform to survive, or is it just another stopgap
measure,
even if we know the Amiga as we knew it on the 68k side is dead?
Regards,
Rene
I have heard the Frieden's talking about it too much on 'A1ge devs'
list. Hans doesn't like my AOL.

Using AOL isn't a problem; any huge amount of junk attached to any
message is though...
Look at Fido's lovely niceness - isn't it nice? Nice. No HTML, no 3MB
Word documents, no 100KB JPGs... Ahh.. Nice.

I'll second that! One of the nice things about the Internet is
that it has given me continued access to Fidonet even after I
moved away from the BBS that I used to call home. :-)

Anyone point me in the direction of dealers selling Amiga ->
VGA adaptors? I'm in North America at present, but they're
small enough to ship across the pond if need be.

The plain text ads are about 4 lines big, the HTML versions of text messages are usually several kilobytes.

I had to give up 'editing' the news in AIO back in 2000.. That's when I started
uni so I was a) too busy and b) my Amiga was connected to the internet only by
a GSM mobile phone. 9600bps is unpleasant!
I did fix some bugs in the software though, and added background images to the
pages (although that was buggy :)

Possibly. Either that or MorphOS. Depends which gets here first. Currently I have no funds to buy a Pegasos for MorphOS.
[blatantly flailing to get back on-topic]I got my "Toast" scan-doubler from Softhut. Works well with the PII or Merlin on the A2Ks. It's crap from cold start, but settles out when it warmsup. About the size of pack of cigaretts, but the price is about 3 cartons of a premium brand. =:o

I already crashed my A1 the second. The first evening -- I skipped the Debian
login request to "Shutdown". Hey, I turned it off like my A2K. Big Oops.=:o

Thanks for the pointer to Softhut, they have other useful things that I may buy. Their site doesn't seem very well laid out, but if I dig enough I should
be able to find the Toast.

This is one of the joys with systems that need a proper shutdown. Even AmigaOS
is not completely carefree in that hindsight, at least if one runs a BBS.
