From Robert Wolfe@1:116/18 to All on Sat Dec 15 00:14:10 2018
    Hi all!

Was able to successfully able to get this version of BBBS installed under AmigaSYS 4 running under the Amiga Forever emulation package. However, when
I go to start bbbsd to listen for telnet connections, I get a "Can't socket() socket" error message. I was wondering if there was a way to get bbbsd to start up properly.

    Thanks!

I run CNet Amiga 5.21a on the Amiga Forever emulation package and haven't had a
socket problem. However, there was a trick we had to do with the serial.device to get it to work. You might check out the support forum for CNet at Future World II bbs. Find the telnet address for that bbs at cnetbbs.net

Yeah, just logged into FW2 a few moments ago. I might see about giving
CNet a try and seeing how well it works. Which emulated machine are you running it on?

Running CNet 5.21b on WinUAE under A4000 68040, runs fast and probably better then it would have on real hardware. My next step is updating it to a PPC emulation to get just a bit more speed out of it. I have found AMiga Forever
is nice for getting started and getting back into the Amiga side of things,
and to own the roms, but once you are up to speed, WinUAE is the way to go. There is so much you can do with WinUAE.. On FW2 there is a guide to
installing CNet in WinUAE.. It's for the beginner but is a good refresher for the seasoned person too.

Yeah, now if there were documentation on how to use the "roms" in Amiga
Forever in WinUAE (if that is even possible).

Actually you really don't need docs, just create a directory in your WinUAE directory, or as I did I created a directory called WinUAE on my C:\ drive
with sub-directories for ROMS, ADF Files, Config Files, and Hard Files. Then
in WinUAE under paths, just enter those paths. From there you are set.. Just
go about your business, create a hard file (I use directory drives for my
BBS) install AOS and you are set to go.. On FutureWorld II there is a doc
file on setting up CNet using WinUAE I followed it to a "T" and knock on wood
I can go weeks if not months without a reboot or crash. It's more operator error on my side.. I also have a PC setup to automatically boot into AOS 4.1 with WinUAE. That system runs as a PPC emulation. It's a nice setup although
a little touchy with Internet access, I need to figure out a better way to handle that..

Yes, and C64 Forever. The shipped v8 but did not send me keys for it (as I only had the keys for v7). But because I ordered v7 when I did, I was able
to get the v8 update for both products without additional charge. I just had to contact them and let them know I had not received the keys for both
products yet. Withn 24 hours I had them sitting in my email inbox from Mike
    at Cloanto :)

I have my copy of CNet v5.21 running under WinUAE. When I first setup my BBS, it was the cheaper way to go. I've purchased Amiga Forever 7 for $5, but haven't done anything with it except install it. I know WinUAE is the emulator inside Amiga Forever and I do know others who have setup their BBS's using Amiga Forever. Good luck and it will be awesome to see another CNet BBS come to
life. I believe there is close to 20 of them so far. I wish Dan aka K-Guide would update the website's listing of current BBS's.
