• A600 and A1200 hard disk

From Andy Ball@1:261/38 to All on Wed Oct 6 02:53:18 2010
    Hello,

What's the highest capacity 2.5" PATA ("IDE") hard disk
that an Amiga 600 or Amiga 1200 can use internally?

    Thanks,
    - Andy Ball

Thanks. Perhaps a CompactFlash card (with suitable
    adaptor) is in order.

That's what I do, and it speeds up the system dramatically.

to be on the very safe side a 2GB drive - randombytes :)

its first safe to use any size when that fucking old kickstart roms get updated to atleast 3.9 rom code

and one more i like to see is to have cdrom boot added to any amiga where there is ide controller

the software is there on disks, but why not make a super roms now ?

As i understand, one that has older ROM (3.0) can load newer kickstart
ROM while booting. there are programs for that as I remember.
Maybe one could make smaller partition on disk that could be used until
newer kickstart is loaded into memory.

I have seen numerout times that A1200 have both Hdd and CD/DVD, even
integrated notebook optical drive on left of the case (power for that
drive should be external as I understand).

Someday I want to get an Amiga 600 or 1200... but I think the Amiga game system upgraded to a computer would be more fun.

yes there is so little to work with on a600 and a1200, i like the cd32 with fmv it was ahead of ps1 ps2 ps3 :)

but cd32 did not even have a keyboard, lol

yep but you reversed the question, its imho nice to see what apple dont want there hardware used for is still done for who wants it :)

mac os x on 68020 with mmu, not impossible just need work to make it happend

    Hello Benny,

BP> but cd32 did not even have a keyboard, lol

My friend had some sort of third party add-on for his
CD32 that gave it most of the innards of an A1200: ATA, keyboard & mouse, SIMM socket etc. There were some slight compatability issues, but it served him until he bought an A1200 and then an A4000.

    SX1 and SX32

i have a SX1 here, and its real nice extender for cd32

despite that it only have room for one ram socket and 4M mem

i have "ide" hmm good and cheap shit :)

if it was made a gvp it would have being scsi, hehe

    SX32 is with a 68030 if i remember

yep this is the bad about amiga models none of them is equal, its like all the girl names in it :)

only exception is that there is 2 paula

that means that programmers that code to amiga os need to take care of what hardware programs are targed to, and then at the same time commodore says use the rom functions :/

would have being more a point if amiga was rtg/ahi from the start

why is that important ?, it would have helped more on created a more widespread amiga programs library that is more compatible with emulators and it would imho have made better optimizing then what lattice c did :)

blink (lattice c linker) could make programs overlay so a1000 with 256K mem could save ram in a way that it just load program parts that is needed, not the whole program into memory, that was dropped in slink (sas c linker)

atleast i could not find any docs on how to migrade this part from blink to slink

kickstart roms that is more or less not handling errors in filesystem with lost rdbs or even make validate, validate currupt disk partions kills more and more my left amigas here, loosing more and more software that is impossible to regain from stores is badly enough :(

what next for me i dont know
