I wasn't going to get into this thread.....but from many years of observation, I see our education system as broken, and probably beyond repair.

Yes I know... Hell kids have to carry graphing calculators to school with RC>them, else they might risk a incomplete, whereas there was a time right RC>after the handheld calculator came to the masses, that to carry one meant RC>severe sanctions. (confiscation, detention, suspension etc)

However I do not believe that all our teachers are the problem as Klahn RC>and Wilson wish to presume.

However like typical liberals, all they want to do is pass students for RC>sowig up to class, who cares if they know the subject matter.

The results of Affirmative Action, and regular `social' promotion are going to come back to haunt us.

Unless you are in uniform you are not supposed to wear an
American flag as an article of clothing.

Unless you are in Mexico, the waving of a Mexican flag in
America, in celebration of some obscure Mexican event that
didn't even occur in America, is not just silly, its (in my
    estimation) deliberately insulting.

If it's an Irish flag is it OK?

Those holding an Irish flag aren't advocating making the place they display that flag part of Ireland, as opposed to Hispanics, who want to make the South West `Mexico'.

    Silk screened on a t-shirt?

The biggest problem with Cinco De Mayo being celebrated at
all (never mind being celebrated in a foreign country where
the event didn't even take place) is, its the celebration

St Patrick's day celebrates a saint who never heard of America.

People who do not hide American flags, or turn their tee shirt with an
American flag displayed on it inside out to hide that flag, do not get beaten up, or their vehicles vandalized, or rocks trown at them as they drive by, in
    a St Patricks Day parade.

of the winning of *one* battle in a war they ultimately
lost! Its the same as...say....Japan annually celebrating
    Pearl Harbor Day,

    Don't be sure they don't.

    or Germany celebrating their `victory'
over Poland in 1939, even though both Japan and Germany
ultimately lost WWII, and at great cost to themselves.

A battle for freedom can be celebrated just for the courage
displayed. After all, the French citizens won their revolution,
but then lost it all anyway.

I don't think the country of Mexico itself celebrates Cinco de Mayo.

I don't care about their celebrating Cinco de Mayo. They can celebrate `Judas Priest' Day for all I care.

But getting huffy, and sometimes even violent, over Americans displaying the American Flag on Cinco de Mayo day, is unacceptable behavior. And if you lived out here a while, you'd know they don't do stuff like that in the same spirit as Irish-Americans do St Patrick's Day. Cinco de Mayo celebrations out here have some sinister overtones to it.

    Incidently, a small followup, here:

I heard on the news tonight that the president of Mexico stood at the White House with Hussein Obama, and on-camera condemned Arizona's immigration law, saying it was discriminatory!

By the way....during St Patrick's Day parades, I've seen as many or more American Flags displayed as Irish. And sometimes, both flags carried side by side.

In the Cinco de Mayo situation.....they don't even want an American Flag in sight!

The vast majority of hispanics who are here legally, illegally ,or whatever, don't want to `be' Americans....they just want to be `citizens', or have the same privileges of citizens. But they do not want to be `Americans'. We don't need people like that here. We already have enough `devisiveness' to go
    around.

And one of the worst advocates of that `devisiveness' is now in the White House!

"Hussein" Obama? Ok, I was with you on this message until you said that. Talk all about your love for America and threats of people in America and then you insult the president of the United States of America. Hypocracy.

Oh did I hit a nerve? "Hussein" is one of his names! Some folks claim its his `middle' name. I think its probably his `first' name. But its one of his
    lawful names!

After some of the names G.W. Bush was called, and by many right here in Fido echoes, refering to Obama by one of his lawful names doesn't even qualify as any sort of insult.

    Get real!
