    Hi All!

I've been running allfix 6 (on xp) for some time now. No problems. In the middle of the day today, it started freezing. asetup works.
    allfix announce works
allfix scan or allfix mgr starts to run and then simply freezes.

I've tried reindexing etc etc -- nothing seems to make any difference!! Help???

    Cheers... Dallas

I gave up on Allfix 6 after the same behavior. Allfix 5 has been working consistently, and seems to do everything I need.

Interesting -- is there a path to down convert to 5 without losing everything?

I don't recall, think I had to enter everyting in by hand.

Well, I've just installed a brand new copy of 6, and re-entered everything by hand. (Did I mention I hate gui-based programs?)

Same problem. It ran fine until I started entering either nodes or echoes or links (dunno which)...then same symptoms again...nothing written to the log, even in debug mode.

I'd switch to an alternative even - anything to get the damn thing working!

doesn't it have an import function like 5 has? Utilities->Import Data... probably too late if you've already wiped out your install and don't have a backup of it... i've not used it but everything that you can export looks to be
allowed for import as well as a few additional things...

Htick looks like it'd do the trick, but the documentation is sparse. Synchronet has tickit, but it doesn't look quite as full-featured as I need. It looks great for a leaf node, but doesn't seem to have areafix, for example.

No, it doesn't have much export or import -- some, but nothing like enough to be any use. Just a few things like fidonet.na, and you can export a (badly formatted) text file of which nodes are connected to which fileechoes - but nothing useful like passwords. I do have the backup, but.... :-(

You might want to take a look at FileMgr but I have not worked on it for almost
    ten years.

It does not do mail tossing though.

Just a File process and tossing tool.
This runs only in a DOS or windows command environment.
The sources are supplied as well as the binaries so you are welcome to see if you can migrate the code over to FPC.
If you do it will be able to work on all platforms that FPC does subject to changing any specific dos routine to the generic one's.

back to 5.x is an option.

I've just tried it -- it's obviously an Allfix clone (or perhaps vice versa!) but the archive I found is quite incomplete. No template file, although a template zip is present, poor docs, and no apparent way to add nodes!

I've been running allfix 6 (on xp) for some time now. No problems. In the DH>> middle of the day today, it started freezing. asetup works.
    allfix announce works
allfix scan or allfix mgr starts to run and then simply freezes.

I've tried reindexing etc etc -- nothing seems to make any difference!!

I know there are some major issues with v6 taht was compiled in Turbo Pascal. I
have most of the programs now compiling under Freepascal for a DOS32 bit version, and windows versions (32 sand 64 bit)

I have some major issue that I am in the process of working out. Also, with all
of the new features and re-write we are going to just release as Version 7.

Also, I am thinking on working on the Windows versions as a higher priority then the DOS as what I have been reading it seems that more peiole are running on that more then DOS.. This will also make it easier to work the bugs out.

Also, I want to start the ALLFIX_BETA and once we get a more stable version ready for testing start getting feedback on it..

    Ken

I gave up on Allfix 6 after the same behavior. Allfix 5
    has been working
consistently, and seems to do everything I need.

Well, I've just installed a brand new copy of 6, and

Same problem. It ran fine until I started entering either
nodes or echoes or links (dunno which)...then same
symptoms again...nothing written to the log, even in
    debug mode.

If you are using the echos for mail, the mail portion of V6 was never functioning correctly to begin with in any of the realease (this wa mentioned by Bob when I took it over, and also reviewing the code)

I have been completely re-writting the Mail tossing portions of this, but have been concitration more on teh file tossing first.

I'd switch to an alternative even - anything to get the
    damn thing working!

No, it doesn't have much export or import -- some, but

IMNSHO adding a mail tossers to Allfix was a mistake. There are a number of good tossers around for all current OSs. There is enough choice, Fidonet does not need yet another tosser.

A Good File manager is another story. Over the years I have been looking for a suitable replacement for Allfix, mainly because I want to get rid of the 16 bit
stuff and I did not find one that satisfied my needs.

I would say drop the mail tosser in Allfix. Only the Swiss love Swiss Army knives. Working on the tosser will dilute your time and energy and at best it will be more of the same. Go for the file manager. Allfix is an excellent file manager. What I think most of what remains of Fidonet is waiting for is Windows
    and Linux versions.

    My 2 cents...

Nope not a defect just me in forgetting to remove path info when archiving as it does the full path and not the path from current directory.

I have placed a downgrade 6x to 5x program out on ALLFIX.COM. I've tested it the best that I can as I do not have alot of the areas and items that others are currently using, I'm sure. Please try it and see if that works for you.
