where did you leanr your linux *nix skills?

One of the best experiences I can recall of my early linux days was installing gentoo. At the time you booted from a cd with a very minimal build environment and you built your OS from scratch, everything including the kernel.

It took 2 or 3 days, computers and internet were not as fast then as they are now.

There were instructions that explained what to do so as long as you followed them you were OK.

I haven't looked at gentoo since then so I don't know if they still use the same method to install or not. It was a great learning experience.

    Ttyl :-),

Most of it I am learning right now hosting my BBS on Xubuntu and my new
project at work requires me to be able to work under Red Hat Linux so this
was kind of a way to force me to get better at it while "playing" at home.

I know very simple basic things most of my life but this is the first time I have been forced to try and understand how things work vs looking up
everything everytime (which I am still doing -- just slightly less often).
