flupH seems to be down. I heard there was some bad weather and flooding in
WV. I hope it's not more than power or internet down and he'll be back soon.

Hello again, i'm back ..(: from a record Mega Flash FLOOD! I've lost a few pounds and a few farm animals and some equipment. Lost about the whole
contents in my tool shack and barn. Anyway, I have a whole new respect for
good old mother nature. When it rains, it pours in West Virginia! They are calling it a 1000 year FLOOD. The record was back in 1888 (I think) 36 ot 37 feet above flood stage. On June 23rd, 2016.. it was a nightmare! The water level climbed out of the River bank and seemed to never stop for what seemed like 6 hours.. It's 120 feet away from my house and needs to rise nearly 45 feet to reach my house. Walnut Creek was on my Northside turn from a small little creek (stream) into a raging river. Elk River, Northwest (my back yard) turn into a super massive beast. My Powerline on the power-pole where under water! Scary shit... haha. I new have a new respect for life and keeping my head on a swivel. The movie "O brother, Where Art thou?" yr:2000 comes to
mind. Very happy, too return the board back where it belongs, in cyberspace..

We've been having yearly floods here in Houston. In may, I had to take 2
days off of work in May because they closed down the campus. Whole swaths of the city of Houston were under water, and people could not get to work or
class (I work at the University of Houston) so they shut it down for
everybody.

Last May we also had flooding rains and my work also made us stay home. I don't think we will be going a year without some sort of flooding.

Back in 2008, when Hurricane Ike blew through town, we had a city-wide power outage that lasted for 2 weeks. Yes, we were without power for 14 days in
the late summer/fall heat. No AC, No nothing. We were able to grill our dinner, and get ice each day at a local HEB so we could keep food in coolers. It was a special time.

i remember being in WV when my mom visited her family and her home where she grew up and the stream was behing their house and i remember walking in the stream and you can catch fish as they swim by. i let them go. it rained
there and the river raised a few feet back then. this was in the mid 70's.
my uncle was a miner. Charlston WV is where we were...

Yes, I was born in Charleston... spent most of my life there. Retired from
the South Charleston Fire Department then moved in 2005 from the City to the Country where Life is slower quite. Charleston has a lager river called the Kanawha River. I moved about 20 miles Northeast up the Elk river that flows into the Kanawha river and on West to the Ohio River. In parts of West Virginia (Appalachian Mountains) heavy rain causes the creeks and hollows to get flooded quite a lot through out the year. Every hundred years or so there seems to be major flooding in these areas. This passed flood surpassed the record set
back in 1888 (Civil War days)... I found Indian arrow heads and Civil War
metal with my metal detector on the Elk river many times.
