Do you have a "special" knife that you like? do you use them? :) i mean as preppers/survivalists. i always liked the fallkniven knives, but were
expensive for my pocket. So i started making my owns :) i have made some from D2 and some from O1 steel and are pretty good. But mostly i use and like very much, Mora knives, which they are very cheap.

    What do you prefer?

Not really as a prepper, but I carry a Swiss Army "Tinker" knife as an
EDC, and my favorite is a Boker Magnum with a Pakkawood handle. It was
the knife the Admiral in Battlestar Galactica had. :)

The closest thing to a knife I'd prep with is a cheap camping folding
blade knife with a clip and a half-serrated blade. I use that thing
for cutting everything around the house and it's wonderful.

... How does this work, is there an orientation?

Preach. A good small LED flashlight is a part of any every-day-carry
list. I need to upgrade, I still keep an AAA maglite with a bulb in my
    bag.

I also use AA/AAA flashlights. AA/AAA batteries can be found everywhere and is nice to have such an option... surely you can't compare it with a 18650 li-ion and a flashlight at 1000+ lumens :)

I started getting obsessed with lumen ratings, then realized the 1 D
cell cheapo EverReady flashlight I walk my dog with is 1 lumen.

Sure, whatever... :) i am not a "lumen-freak" also :) I do appreciate that we have the tech. to have very bright flashlights, but in some cases, you don't want to have such bright ones. Specially on head lamps.

I have 5-10 cheap, chinese, AA/AAA 3 to 30 lumens flashlight for everyday use and one or two, "special" ones, for special occasions, like in the car, for an accident or malfunction and in the house to check the perimeter of the garden. :)

I was given a Victorinox Swiss Army knife by my boss one Christmas back in about 1989-1990. I was always borrowing his because I needed to cut the
shield away from cables I was soldering and he got tired lol.

Anyway, I love that thing and still have it to this day. It's got everything you could need, a couple of knifes, wood cutting tool, bottle opener, magnifying glass, pen (tho it ran out years ago), corkscrew, cross head screwdriver...it's been invaluable many times in the past.
