• Linux Without Windows

My mom recently bought an i3 Lonovo Laptop. It is slow. Windows is slow. I am always telling her how awesome Linux is and she has decided to migrate
from Windows to Linux. I'm going to put GNU/Ubuntu Linux on to her system. There was one problem with this though. She needs Microsoft Office as Libre Office isn't as straight forward. So I thought of setting up VMware to host
an instance of Windows that she might run Microsoft Office and have it work well for her. The laptop only has 8 gigs of RAM and has a very limited processor (CPU). So I found a third option. I will be buying the Crossover Plugin which will allow me to install Microsoft Office from within Linux and not have to have anything to do with Windows. Crossover is a Windows
emulator that lets people run windows software from within Linux. In past years I would not recommend it as its supported software was significantly limited. It can now run Office 2013. I only wanted to use MS Office 2013 because it is now quite cheap as its not the latest and greatest. Personally
I think MS Office should be a finished product. I can do anything on Office 2013 that I can on Office 2019. Some buttons may be changed around or something may be more asthetically pleasing than in 2013 but for my use Microsoft Office 2013 does everything that I need it to. Crossover supports the three main office programs of Word, Powerpoint, and Excel. You can get these older versions of Office off of eBay for less than $30 USD. So I save money by using this slightly older version and I get to run it without
running Windows. I am really happy with this. This means that you don't have to invest in the Windows operating system. I would most certainly recommend the Crossover Plugin for everyone that wants to use some Windows-only software but do it without Windows only. Its a fairly good price too at around $30 USD. Have fun with this. Escape from the Windows environment to GNU/Linux. It is better in most every way. Don't believe the Linux evangelists? Install GNU/Ubuntu Linux and see for yourself.

    Best regards,
    warmfuzzy
