Have you ever read those teenage spy novels featuring young children in the role of the spy? Strangely this is more common than you might think. Here
are two not so far out stories that could have happened in real life.
I won't go into detail of these "stories" but real life is stranger than fiction. Enter girl #1... she received the alias of "moppet the spook tot" because she was barely a teenager when she went scouting out people in the role of an intelligence scout, who became a friend of the target in quick order to bring back news about the person of interest. The other person was older, around fifteen, who participated in a cultural exchange. What is common with both these young teenagers is their immense self-confidence, ability to handle themselves like adults, and taste for adventure. It also seems "normal" to have households of spies. For whatever reason recruiters like to recruit young, recruit middle class, recruit people with skills in the arts, both drama and drawings, and people who've got a good nerve that won't break under questioning. What I heard that was interesting to me was the significant number of foreign actors in Canada. I figured the spooks were focused on only nations that have the bomb. Canada doesn't, but that doesn't stop the world powers from having presence in this country. Another surprise was that Canada is under surveillance. Lets say that the Moppet met a target, the satellites from that point on can find out where the target travels to from a zillion kilometers up in the sky and not have any need for people following the targets in cars. Even more intriguing is the use of self-surveillance. Have you ever wondered how the police find serious criminals doing their serious crime? With blanket surveillance it is now possible to view the records of crimes and go backwards to find out where the criminal came from. In other words, you are under surveillance, both domestically from your own country and internationally by the various foriegn intelligence services from around the world. I've heard that it takes approximately 15 minutes for a foreign intelligence service to start tracking you. You would have no idea this was happening unless the service had poor operational security. Also, just because countries have good diplomatic relations with other countries doesn't mean that they don't spy on one another, indeed everyone spies on everyone else. It is useful to land the best business deals, to ensure national security just in case, and it employs the military industrial complex (ie. intelligence community) who need places to invest their money in and stealing secrets seems just as worthy as any other project.

    Back to the spook tots,

They (surprisingly) are real. They are well trained. They don't spill secrets. Furthermore, they are unexpected, so you could have a kid's friend spying on you and you wouldn't suspect anything, after all who would train a kid to spy on people? Well, money talks, and stranger things have happened.
