TAILS is some serious tech. You can have it boot off a usb stick and power off then power on a library computer or a computer cafe and surf rather safely.

yeah man I checked it out and I now have a dedicated stick with TAILS on it. Thanks for the headsup!

    Cheers!

How is [TAILS] any different that a Live writable Linux image?

It has the TOR network (The Onion Router) pre=setup for use with all sorts of programs. Its setup for anonymous web browsing, various instant messaging services, and because it completely bypasses the hard drive of the local computer (files can be saved on to your USB stick); so if there was a
keylogger or some sort of surveillance on the coffee shop computer that wouldn't cause problems for you as TAILS almost completely bypasses both the local machine and its Internet connection.

Yup, I use Tails a lot and really like it. I use it at home but keep it in my pocket when I'm out and about. That way if I'm visiting someone and want to use their computer or at a hotel and want to use the one in the lobby....or whatever, I have a good secure setup that has amnesia.

TAILS is a real game changer, however it needs some major improvement. Specifically it needs to work with The Freenet Project and the Invisible Internet Project (I2P). Having TOR alone is not good enough. I2P offers features that are better than TOR's. They are nearly on par with one another and I2P shouldn't be left out of the game.
